BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING EXPERT GUIDANCE ON INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH DIVERSE ABILITIES
Hello <<First Name>>

One of the biggest joys I've experienced through my work in inclusion is witnessing the development of an authentic friendship between a person with and without a disability, that began as a result of a mutual interest and involvement in them doing something they loved, together.

This month's MERGE newsletter is focused solely on a project I've been working on with the Arc of Massachusetts, where I need your help in identifying examples of reciprocal, meaningful friendships between a person with and without a disability. Check out the feature story and consider nominating someone you know to be featured in the Pathways To Friendship Toolkit that is in the early stages of publication.

Consider the value friendships have brought to your life, and join me in raising up the importance of friendships #ForAll.

WANTED: STORIES OF FRIENDSHIP

In partnership with the The Arc of Massachusetts and the Widening the Circle: Pathways to Friendship Project, MERGE Founder, Lisa Drennan is writing a resource toolkit on the topic of facilitating friendships between persons with and without disabilities.

After compiling the data and feedback from a series of focus groups held in December, the writing is well underway and YOUR help is needed.

We want to showcase a authentic and reciprocal friendships in this book to share with the reader what is possible. This friendship would be between a person with and one without a disability that began through participation in a recreation, community based or leisure activity where both were equal participants, not occuring in a paid or volunteer arrangement. Ideally this friendship has developed and continues over the years.

See an example below of one such friendship between Daniel and Korynn, who you'll have an opportunity to learn more about in the upcoming toolkit.

Interest candidates, are invited to share a photo of both friends (with their permission) ideally participating in a activity together and a few words about how they met and what makes their friendship special. Send to: Lisadrennan@mergeconsulting.org
