Hello <<First Name>>
It's true, this pandemic has certainly been a challenge in so many ways, but I've found there have also been many silver linings within this perpetual black cloud we've been living under. One of these has been the creation of a collaborative project with colleague Michael Woods of Inclusive Sport Design located in Australia. Back in the spring of 2020 we created the first of many workshops in a series of Masterclasses, each one showcasing subject matter experts around the world, sharing how a sport team, league or organization can be more inclusive in their practices of athletes with disabilities.
I am proud to share that my own training, Inclusive Sport: A Pathway Toward Friendship, recently launched as the first in the series and is now available to purchase. And as it just so happens, Thursday, December 3rd is International Day of People with a Disability. To celebrate, and help more people access and participate in sport fully, ISD Academy courses will be offered at a discount of 50% off!
Inside this month's newsletter, you'll learn more about this training, the value and importance of friendship, and how I am looking to recruit one (1) sport organization to pilot this training for free!

A Peek Inside Inclusive Sports A Pathway Toward Friendship
Even before the onset of the recent global pandemic, isolation and loneliness are experienced by persons with disabilities at a considerably higher rate than their non-disabled peers. Now more than ever, it is crucial that we work to create opportunities for social connectedness and belonging.
Inclusive sports and recreation provide an ideal setting for this to occur. A coach, counselor or instructor is uniquely positioned to begin the connection that could lead to an authentic relationship and friendship to blossom between a team member with, and a team member without a disability.
Attendees of this Masterclass will:
- Understand what inclusion looks like in a sports setting
- Explore the definition and attributes of friendship
- Review top strategies for coaches and instructors to implement, and build a culture of inclusion
When we focus on an individual’s gifts and values that they can share with their community, we have taken the first step in facilitating and fostering a friendship based on a mutual interest that two people may share.
If you are involved with a sports organization, (or know someone that is – please share!) use any down time you may be experiencing during this time and invest in creating more inclusive communities. By providing the proper tools, training and confidence for coaches, your organization will successfully facilitate meaningful and reciprocal friendships.
