BUILDING STRONGER COMMUNITIES BY PROVIDING EXPERT GUIDANCE ON INCLUSION OF PERSONS WITH DIVERSE ABILITIES
Hello <<First Name>>,

After completing a training session at a recent conference, a woman patiently waited for me to become available. Once I was, she approached me, "That was incredible, thank you", she said, extending her hand to shake mine, "you made this topic so easy to understand, I can't wait to go back to work and start applying these strategies".
She is the volunteer coordinator at a local non-profit and oversees their team of volunteers. Our conversation continued and she shared that she had been struggling to engage her volunteers with diverse abilities. She admitted that she tended to shy away from learning more about these volunteers, about their talents, passions, and goals. She said what stuck with her most from the presentation were the words "meaningful participation" and that she was now committed to creating an environment where the individuality of every single volunteer is celebrated, their potential maximized and their talents are utilized.

MERGE FOUNDER SERVES ON ARC'S ADVISORY BOARD

Lisa Drennan has been serving as an Advisory Committee Member of the Widening The Circle (WTC) initiative by the ARC of Massachusetts. The purpose of WTC is to explore the benefits of relationships between people with, and without, disabilities and to provide information about resources available to help interested individuals engage in, and sustain, those relationships.
The work of MERGE aligns with the mission of this project and provides both parties the opportunities to strengthen their message about the value and importance of friendships that stem from recreational activities. A recent photo taken at a MERGE led Inclusive Swim Program through a partnership between Kennedy Donovan Center and Cape Cod YMCA demonstrates in smiles the value of friendship.
