News and information for West Oxfordshire’s businesses - 08 Jan 21

Update on COVID grants

There have been a number of different business grants available from the beginning of November when we entered the second national lockdown. The specific grant and the period covered is dependent on the type of business and the restrictions in force at the time. As these restrictions have changed a number of times since the beginning of November, the situation is becoming very complex and we are still waiting for the full guidance on the latest scheme from the government.

To help businesses through this, we are adopting an approach of a single application, after which we will contact businesses directly to seek confirmation of their continued eligibility for new grants as they become applicable.

If you have:
  • made a previous successful application for a business grant since November 2020 (or have an application pending) we will email you by the 22 January 2021. You do not need to do anything until we email you.
  • not made a previous application then you will be able to apply for the current and previous grants since the beginning of November 2020 in one application. Applications will open during the week commencing 18 January 2021.
There is further information about the grants on our website and we will continue to keep you updated via this newsletter.

Identifying trade barriers

A trade barrier is something that slows down or stops a company from exporting goods or services to an overseas market. The Department for International Trade (DIT) has an online service where businesses can check if there are any trade barriers in their chosen market. The service shows:
  • barriers that may currently affect businesses exporting goods, providing services or investing in a specific country
  • barriers that have been resolved
