Crews will begin striping S Columbian Way and S Alaska St, east of Beacon Ave S, from Tuesday, May 28th to Thursday, May 30th. This work will happen at night. We will share the schedule for striping S Columbian Way west of Beacon Ave S once it is available.

Next weekend, June 1 and 2, crews plan to pave the intersection of Beacon Ave S and S Columbian Way.

Upcoming work

Striping on S Columbian Way / S Alaska St. What to expect:
  • Work is scheduled for Tuesday, May 28th to Thursday, May 30th and tentatively for Monday, June 3rd to Thursday, June 7th from 7 PM to 7 AM
  • Striping will take 7 days to complete
  • Work will not be very noisy, but expect strong odors
  • There will be lane shifts and flaggers to help direct traffic around work areas, which will be coned off
  • Access to S Columbian Way and S Alaska St will not be open from side streets
Weekend work: Paving the S Columbian Way/Beacon Ave S intersection. What to expect:
  • Work is scheduled for Saturday, June 1st to Sunday, June 2nd from 6 AM to 5 PM
  • Expect delays due to traffic holds
  • This work will require at least a partial closure of the intersection. We will share more information next week. 
After striping and intersection work is complete, crews will:
  • Clean up the work area
  • Install remaining topsoil and seed grass in planting areas
  • Install street signs
  • Update any remaining non-ADA compliant curb ramps and sidewalks
Biking through the work area: During this work, crews will need to close sections of the bike lanes on S Columbian Way to ensure they have enough space to complete work safely. We ask people biking to merge with general traffic when riding through the work area.

  • On-street parking and lane restrictions near work locations
  • Temporary sidewalk and crosswalk closures with signed detours
  • Noise, dust, concrete odors, and vibration
  • Access to businesses and homes will remain open
  • Work is weather dependent, so timing of work may change if needed
