Greetings | Saludos | salaam | 問候 |lời chào hỏi| salamu,

This week, crews plan to complete concrete work, including driveway widening. This Saturday, March 30, crews will be doing base repair work, on S Columbian Way near the Lucky Seafood. Eastbound traffic on S Columbian Way will be detoured at Beacon Ave S to S Ferdinand St, 24th Ave S then back to S Columbian Way.

Grinding and paving work is scheduled for the week of April 8.
Please see below for additional details about upcoming work.

Upcoming work
Weekend work on S Columbian Way and eastbound detour
Weekend work: On Saturday, March 30, crews are scheduled to do asphalt base repairs near Lucky Seafood. What expect:
  • Alley access will be blocked 7 AM to 6 PM
  • Eastbound traffic on S Columbian Way will be detoured at Beacon Ave S to S Ferdinand St, 24th Ave S then back to S Columbian Way
  • For northbound traffic on Beacon Ave S, there will be right turn restrictions onto S Columbian Way
Lawn installation: This week, crews have continued prepping the new planting strips for seeding. This work will continue through next week. Seeding is scheduled for mid-April.

Pavement grinding: Starting as early as Monday April 8, crews will begin grinding the top several inches of asphalt on S Columbian Way and S Alaska St between Beacon Ave S and Martin Luther King Jr. Way to prepare for paving. This work will be done at night.
  • Work hours are Monday, April 8 to Tuesday, April 9, 7 PM to 7 AM
    • We understand the nightwork is not ideal. This work is scheduled for nights to minimize the impact on daytime traffic and reduce the number of days required to complete grinding work.
  • Traffic detours and street access
    • One lane westbound will remain open
    • Streets on the south side of S Columbian Way will not have access to S Columbian Way. Please use back streets and go around the closure
  • Pedestrian Impacts: There will be pedestrian restrictions on sidewalks adjacent to work areas
  • Driveway access
    • Residents on S Columbian Way and S Alaska St will not have access to their driveways for 30 to 45 minutes while grinding machines are directly in front of their driveway
    • There will be limited driveway access during the paving period in order to allow new asphalt to cool properly
    • Flaggers will be onsite to stop and direct traffic when it is safe to enter a particular driveway
Base repairs and paving: Following grinding, crews are scheduled to complete asphalt base repairs and paving work the week of April 15.  This work will be done at night and is weather dependent.

Biking through the work area: During this work, crews will need to close sections of the bike lanes on S Columbian Way to ensure they have enough space to complete work safely. We ask people biking to merge with general traffic when riding through the work area.
