Oslo Manual 2018 recently launched. The purpose of this manual is to guide innovation data collection and reporting efforts, to help policymakers to better understand, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of their policies. What are the main novelties of this edition?
  • Role of standards. Standards play an important coordination role in many markets and can influence the characteristics of product and business process innovations.
  • The challenges for future collection and use of innovation data according to their nature and attributes.
    • Big data and the ability to treat, compile, analyze and measure them, will need to be correctly handled.
    • The coverage of innovative strategies and activities, at either the industry or national level, must be holistic, complete and representative.

The Global Competitiveness Report 2018. The 2018 edition of the Global Competitiveness Report sheds light on an emerging set of drivers of productivity and long-term growth in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution to help policy-makers and other stakeholders to shape economic strategies and monitor progress. Germany was highlighted as a champion in innovation, based on a number of rather “traditional” indicators and survey results.
