EURITO NEWSLETTER


The EURITO project aims to develop updatable Relevant, Inclusive, Timely, Trusted and Open indicators for R&I policy, using new types of data, novel analytical methods and interactive visualizations. 

In this regard, in this newsletter, we will share with you relevant information, documents, and other information we think might be of your interest, like:

EURITO NEWS: 

  • EURITO COVID-19 project. The EURITO project in its branch of COVID-19 seeks to generate evidence about the impact of EC funded projects in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. 
EURITO REPORTS:
  • D4.1 Innovation Cases Report – Within our effort to validate the results we are achieving; this deliverable is focused on checking the quality of our statistical output.

EURITO COVID-19 PROJECT

 
The EURITO project is scoping options to create Relevant, Inclusive, Trusted and Open indicators to measure R&D efforts to tackle COVID-19 within the EU ecosystem. Our work would seek to: 

  • Analyse the composition of the EC response to the pandemic
  • Generate evidence about the impact of organizations and EC funded projects in the fight against COVID-19

Nevertheless, we are working as well in analysing emerging technologies linked to the geography, gender diversity, and the technological trajectory of AI research, and levels of research activity and funding related to various Sustainable Development Goals.

EURITO REPORTS 


D4.1 Innovation Cases Report – Quality is measured by the extent to which the statistics are: relevant, accurate and reliable, timely and punctual, coherent, comparable across regions and countries, and readily accessible by users and serve the needs of European institutions, governments, research institutions, business concerns and the public generally.

The purpose of this deliverable is to perform the first validation exercise and to check the degree of compliance of a subset of the outputs of the EURITO project against the list of relevant principles of the Quality Assurance Framework (QAF) V 2.0 of the European Statistical System (ESS). In this sense, this deliverable is mainly focused on validating the principles regarding the quality of statistical output. You can read the report at this link.
 
D5.2 Scale-up Pilots Working Paper(s). In the previous stages of the EURITO project, we identified a set of priority areas where data science methods could help develop new indicators to address the needs of Research and Innovation policymakers. These include the analysis of emerging technologies, the composition of research and technical fields, mission-driven and inclusive innovation and advanced funding analytics. With the arrival of the Covid-19 pandemic, EURITO pivoted towards studying the research and innovation response to the pandemic, focusing on the EU. This note summarizes emerging findings from an analysis of targeted funding to tackle Covid-19 in the Horizon 2020 program using techniques identified and developed earlier in the project. In particular, we:

  1. Identify projects related to Covid-19 in the H2020 data
  2. Analyse national under or over-representation in the Covid-19 response, taking into account pre-existing research capabilities
  3. Characterize the composition of the EU response to the pandemic and potential disciplinary gaps
  4. Identify new and potential entrants into the Covid-19 response based on pre-existing research capabilities
  5. Measure project's novelty based on their semantic distance to existing research clusters

Call for papers for a Special Issue in Research Policy. In the context of the pilot on standards as innovation indicators, Fraunhofer ISI published with three co-editors a call for papers. Related to D 4.5. Conceptual Model. The Fraunhofer ISI´s abstract with the title “Integrating Innovative Innovation Indicators in the R&I Policy Life Cycle: A Conceptual Platform Model, Organizational Challenges and Implications” has been accepted for the presentation of a full paper for the Track “New indicators and approaches in STI policy: beyond data and prediction to impacting the policy cycle” of the 10th Annual Eu-SPRI Conference: “Science and innovation – an uneasy relationship? Rethinking the roles and relations of STI policies”.
