PCN Cost Sharing Agreements

PCS has today written to all PCN clinical directors and PCN managers to share the new template Cost Sharing Agreement that has been developed with PCNs and LMC.

Primary Care Sheffield has facilitated the creation of the Cost Sharing Agreement in response to feedback from PCNs looking to create an effective vehicle allowing them to employ staff directly.

Swabbing for patients who attend hot hub appointments

In response to the growing number of patients presenting for a COVID swab only at our HOT Hub sites,  we would like to inform all booking practices that a COVID swab will only be offered to patients attending hot hubs when there is  a clinical benefit to do so.

Please do not book appointment for patients expecting a swab because the Hot Hub GP may not be able to offer one.

Hot hub has not replaced swabbing via other services such as by calling 119 or booking an appointment online. Swabs done via Tier 2 centre will link into the NHS Test and Trace service.

Swabbing commenced at the hot hubs to minimize journeys for patients who should be self-isolating with symptoms of COVID and also to assist in swabbing of those patients who would otherwise have difficulty accessing a Tier 2 centre; for example: patients who need public transport to access swabbing sites; or the vulnerable, elderly patients with difficulty accessing swabbing sites or those patients who do not have internet access to book appointments on line, etc.

The PCS swabbing service is for key workers and teachers and these are booked through the PCS booking system (use the link below)

Transfer of in hours hot hub provision from Darnall to Sloan Medical Centre

Building works at Darnall Primary Care Centre have impacted our ability to continue provision there, and so additional sessions will be put on at Sloan Medical Centre during the day and in evenings if necessary.  This is in addition to regular sessions at Flowers Health Centre.  We will also review the taxi provision if these changes have an adverse impact on travel for patients.
Practice Learning Initiative dates

A reminder that physio colleagues will be taking time out of day-to-day service delivery  to attend service specific training as part of the citywide Protected Learning Initiative (PLI).

Physio colleagues will be taking part in the PLI on the following dates in April, May and June.
  • Monday 12th April
  • Wednesday 12th May
  • Friday 11th June.
The time will be used for team briefing, audit process  and service improvement projects.
Training for PCN staff: New dates added

Register below for free CPR and fire safety training sessions which are available to any PCN-employed staff. These sessions are provided by Primary Training Solutions.

We have added two new courses:
Health and Safety+ this session encompasses Health and Safety, Information Governance, Infection Control (non-clinical), and Moving and Handling (non-clinical) content. This newly-developed course offers the benefit of combining four mandatory training courses into one comprehensive session.

Moving and Handling Clinical (especially recommended for clinical staff) this course will be delivered face-to-face and provides an ideal approach to safer and more effective manual handling – not only meeting HSE recommendations, but also promoting good and safe practices in any situation.
Places are offered on a first-come first-served basis, however if your choice of date is fully booked please add your details to the waiting list and we will contact you if a place becomes available. This course will be delivered via the Zoom platform so all booked staff must have appropriate equipment (computer/laptop with microphone and camera)

Please note that we continue to offer the CPR sessions 'in person' in line with national guidance. These sessions will follow the government's COVID-19 secure guidelines in full.

Please contact for any further info you may require.
