Additional support for practices: re-opening of Sloan ‘cold’ hub

We’re pleased to announce that as part of our ongoing work to increase the capacity of Extended Access hubs the Sloan hub will reopen as an out-of-hours cold hub on Monday 9 August. Sloan will also continue as a 'hot hub' location for both in and out-of-hours. These arrangements have been agreed for an initial period of three months.

Note that the search for an additional hot hub location continues. Please contact chris.thornton@nhs.net if you are interested in hosting and have suitable premises.

Late changes to Extended Access hub appointment times – action being taken

Several practices have contacted PCS to say that some extended access hub appointments are being changed at late notice. We understand that this is causing confusion and problems for patients and practices. This has reflected in poor patient experience, and generated complaints in the practices that originally booked the appointments.

In response we have audited the times patients are being seen compared to their appointment time to assess the scale of the issue. From this we can see that the swapping is mainly related to later patients being brought in earlier in the session.

System Capacity

The Walk In Centre is not a PCS service but we are aware from our system conversation, that they currently are under-utilised. We thought this may be useful information for our shareholders, so they know where the capacity currently sits in the system.

Greener Practice Info

Climate change is happening and whilst many of us realise this and may feel motivated to make changes in our private lives, most feel overwhelmed by thought of tackling this in our work lives. Recently, London GP Dr Tamsin Ellis discussed how we can improve health and climate outcomes in GP in this inspiring discussion on radio 4: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000x4vq

Registering service development interests and expertise

As GP practices you came together to create PCS to do the things that you can't do alone. It's your organisation.

Our experience has shown that to deliver things the way you need them delivered we need to involve clinicians, managers and practice teams from the outset when services are being created.

Rather than wait until we have any specific project in the first stages of development, we would like to be pro-active and build up a register of those with an interest in future project development. So, if you have a specific area you are interested in then let us know so that we can contact you if input is needed in that area.

PCS 'drop-in' sessions

The PCS team is always keen to hear about anything you would like to raise with us in the way of feedback or any ideas you may have on how we might shape things going forwards.

Dr Andy Hilton and Nicki Doherty keep a lunch time 'drop in' slot available in their diary on Wednesday (Andy) and Friday (Nicki).  If you would like to catch-up with them in one of those, please simply click the button below, and we will get back to you to arrange that.

Please note that these 'drop-in' sessions are in addition to the 1:1 meetings we have been arranging with practices.
