Top Sport in the Park

Werribee Park never looked better than today, with the sun shining and the crowds streaming through the gate to witness a day of cross country. Course builders Ewan Kellett's and Mick Pineo's courses looked amazing and gave the riders plenty to think about. It has been years since the fences were set up so close to the historical Werribee Mansion, what an amazing sight. Other iconic locations like the State Rose Garden and the Ornamental Lake also made a comeback. All these provided fantastic viewing and photo opportunities. We thank Parks Victoria for their great support!

Celebrations for Stuart

Stuart Tinney and Celebration held onto their lead, completing the cross country with only 3.2 time faults added to their dressage score. This has them going into the show jumping tomorrow with 8.5 penalties in hand.

"Celebration was gorgeous, he was really good, tried really hard, galloped well, very happy. It is a bit hard being first out in the whole competition but he has gone alright. The course rode exactly to plan, it was tough enough and kept you busy, you had to stay on your lines, but it rode really well - good course, I liked it," said Stuart.

Rankings were re-shuffled with home crowd favourite Simon Tainsh and OTTB Punching in a Dream moving up from 14th to 2nd and QLD rider Tanya Schmidt and Laurentino moving up from 16th to 3rd. Stuart's other two rides, Leporis and Wanda are sitting in 5th and 6th respectively.

Perfect Perfection

Evergem Perfection was just that today, showing a perfect cross country round and shooting up the leaderboard from 15th to 1st place. "Ollie" and Eliza Harvey have only been a combination since the end of 2017, previously the gelding was competing and placing at 5* level with Andrew Cooper. A host of riders, including Sophie Fox and OTTB Mr Pig and Isabel Houghton and Tulara Diarangol moved up in the standings today - another proof that anything can happen on xc day!

Tim Boland and Menlo Park sit in second spot on the leaderboard after the xc phase.

Double Clears

The top three placings remained the same after the conclusion of the xc phase. Madison Simpson and Tiraumea Sportsman, Carlene Barton and Henrik APH and Sam Jeffree and Woodmount Lolita added zero jumping and time faults to their dressage score. All eyes will be on the showjumping tomorrow!

Like Father like Son

Or better 'like father & mother, like son', as Oliver Barrett leads the class with his two horses Sandhills Special and Ballyhoo in 1st and 2nd. Young Oliver clearly wants to step in his parents' footsteps as both have been winners around Melbourne before. However Charlie Richardson and his OTTB Bellbirds Sandpiper are hot on his heels.
