It's that time of year--cookouts, picnics and backyard parties. It's Chow Chow Season, folks! That's a thing, you know. Well, maybe it's not, but it should be! Here are some ideas for things to do with the delicious and versatile Chow Chows made by the sweet & sassy ladies at The Creative Wedge (aka The Wedgies). The "Wow" is mild. The "Pow" is spicy. Get yours at Wednesday's market.

Just a few ideas from the market that Dads would love:
  • Locally roasted coffees from Three Ships - they can help you choose - or the Signature Blend Coffee from Cowboy Syd's Products
  • Soaps  from The Flower Lady - she recommends Matador, Hooligan and Happy Camper as masculine blends; she will also have beard oil
  • All Dad's favorite fixings to make him a special Sunday breakfast from Full Quiver Farm - fresh eggs, bacon and breakfast sausage; potatoes are also available at the market right now for some crispy home fries to go with it
  • Bloody Mary Mix from The Creative Wedge to set a leisurely pace for the day
  • A Bacardi rum cake from Dessert Classics
  • A growler of Dad's favorite kombucha from Red Mushroom Brewing Company
  • A gift certificate from The Neighborhood Harvest - help Dad eat healthy, local food he can have delivered to his doorstep anywhere in Hampton Roads
  • Local raw honey and a honey pot from Sunshine Farm & Apiary
  • Have his favorite kitchen knives sharpened by Max The Knife

Norma's Produce tells us they are bringing their first sweet corn of the season tomorrow! Summer is definitely here now! We saw the first cherry tomatoes of the season at the market last week.

Pick up some Chicken Leg Quarters from Full Quiver Farm and try this prize-winning recipe for Barbecued Chicken Legs. Reviewers of the recipe rave about the flavor of the sauce. So many in-season veggies would pair very well with this.
For those of you unable to make it to our Wednesday market, have you heard that we are starting a second market in Norfolk? Harvest Market at O'Connor Brewing Co. will be held every 1st & 3rd Sunday, June 16 through October 6, from noon to 4 pm. You can just pop in to shop at the market, or stay for an afternoon of great beer, good times with friends and to support all things LOCAL! This new market has its own Facebook page, so "Like" it to keep up with all the news. Many of the vendors will be the same, but there will be some new ones, too! We would like to thank O'Connor Brewing Co. for approaching us to organize this second market, which will give even more people in our community access to locally farmed and locally made food.
Markets are rain or shine. Brief thunderstorms early in the market day may force us to put sales on hold temporarily. In the event of widespread thunderstorms or storms in the final hour of the market, we may be forced to close for the day. If we are forced to close either temporarily or for the day, we will post a notice on the home page of our website.
