We would like to welcome our newest vendor to the market! Captains Choice Seafood starts with us this Wednesday! They seek out the freshest seafood from the hardworking watermen of Virginia, North Carolina and beyond. Through the season, you can find blue crabs (#1 or #2 jimmies only), soft shells, crab cakes, Jonah crab claws, oysters from the Northern Neck and the Chesapeake Bay, live lobster, Maine mussels, dry packed scallops, fresh shrimp, hook & line caught fish, Chesapeake Bay clams and more. They also have their own blend of seafood seasoning to pair with any seafood of your liking. You can expect great seafood and great service from Captain’s Choice!

Dessert Classics will once again be increasing the numbers of Key Lime Pies and Key Lime Minis they will bring to market this Wednesday. They will not be attending the following week, so stock up! Also, these key lime pies will still be great for the holiday weekend ahead--they are fresh made the day before market and will retain their freshness if you choose to freeze them for later! Also available will be their Lemon Curd. Feel free to call and have yours set aside or with any questions. 757-689-4642.
Hampton Roads Winery is back with us this week (they attend once monthly). Come sample their wines from Surry County, and be sure to pick up some Drunken Goat Wine Slushie Mix for the hot holiday weekend ahead. You'll be glad you did! 
New Product Alert! Visit Cowboy Syd's tent for one of his Sausage & Tomato Petite Pies. They have a delicate, flaky crust and are filled with juicy pork sausage that Chef Sydney makes and seasons himself, along with tomatoes and savory herbs. Serves 1-2 with a salad of mixed greens or some wilted spinach, or enjoy it for breakfast with some fresh melon on the side! 
"CATHY'S CORNER" - TIPS FOR HEALTHFUL EATING
 
We are fortunate enough to have Cathy Bowers, RD, owner of Nutrition For A Lifetime, as one of our 2019 HBFM Advertising Partners. She provides nutrition education, meal planning, help with weight loss or weight gain, and help managing chronic diseases. Nutrition For A Lifetime wants to bring you the most current information and resources to help manage your health and the health and future well being of your family. Many insurance plans are accepted. We invited Cathy to share some tips for more healthful eating with you once a month in our newsletter. Her tips go hand-in-hand with all the fresh produce available to you at the market!

A healthy plate is easy when you make half your plate fruits and vegetables. It’s also a great way to add
color, flavor and texture plus vitamins, minerals and fiber. All this is packed in fruits and vegetables that
are low in calories and fat. Make 2 cups of fruit and 2 ½ cups of vegetables your daily goal. Try the
following tips to enjoy more fruits and vegetables every day.

1. Variety abounds when using vegetables as pizza topping. Try broccoli, spinach, green peppers,
tomatoes, mushrooms and zucchini.
2. Mix up a breakfast smoothie made with low-fat milk, frozen strawberries and a banana.
3. Make a veggie wrap with roasted vegetables and low-fat cheese rolled in a whole-wheat tortilla.
4. Try crunchy vegetables instead of chips with your favorite low-fat salad dressing for dipping.
5. Grill colorful vegetable kabobs packed with tomatoes, green and red peppers, mushrooms and
onions.
6. Add color to salads with baby carrots, grape tomatoes, spinach leaves or mandarin oranges.
7. Keep cut vegetables handy for mid-afternoon snacks, side dishes, lunch box additions or a quick
nibble while waiting for dinner. Ready-to-eat favorites: red, green or yellow peppers, broccoli or
cauliflower florets, carrots, celery sticks, cucumbers, snap peas or whole radishes.
8. Place colorful fruit where everyone can easily grab something for a snack-on-the run. Keep a bowl of
fresh, just ripe whole fruit in the center of your kitchen or dining table.
9. Get saucy with fruit. Puree apples, berries, peaches or pears in a blender for a thick, sweet sauce on
grilled or broiled seafood or poultry, or on pancakes, French toast or waffles.
10. Stuff an omelet with vegetables. Turn any omelet into a hearty meal with broccoli, squash, carrots,
peppers, tomatoes or onions with low-fat sharp cheddar cheese.

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to fire up the grill! Pick up some Bratwurst from Full Quiver Farm for this recipe. While grilled Brats are very good in their own right, make them "next level" by simmering them in a flavorful bath of beer, mustard and sauerkraut before finishing them on the grill until they are hot and slightly charred.
