Statement from Warden McNeil

Vigil for London Attack

There will be a vigil to honour the family impacted by the tragic attack that took place in London, Ontario on Sunday. The Abbotsford Islamic Centre invites the community to attend the vigil to commemorate the lives lost in the attack on Friday, June 11 at 7:30 pm. The Centre is located at 1980 Salton Road. All COVID-19 guidelines will be implemented.

Celebrating World Refugee Day

The United Nations designated World Refugee Day to honour refugees around the globe. It falls each year on June 20 and celebrates the strength and courage of people who have been forced to flee their home country to escape conflict or persecution. World Refugee Day is an occasion to build empathy and understanding for their plight and to recognize their resilience in rebuilding their lives. Read more about it here.

Celebrating National Indigenous Peoples Day

In honour and recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day 2021 on June 21. National Indigenous Peoples Day is a day recognizing and celebrating the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Indigenous peoples of Canada. Mental Health Information Session

Immploy Webinar

Huron County Immigration Partnership partnered with Immploy to create a webinar for employers across Southwestern Ontario called ‘Bilingualism: Adding Value in the Workplace’. It will take place on Tuesday, June 22, 2021 from 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM. The panel will explore the benefits of a bilingual workforce, and find out how employers can access bilingual talent in the region.

Newcomer Welcoming Week

Huron County Immigration Partnership is participating in Newcomer Welcoming Week through IRRCC’s Immigration Matters campaign. Newcomer Welcoming Week celebrates immigration through virtual campaign while advancing inclusion and making our community equal for all. The campaign will take place during the week of September 10 – 19. There's more information here.

Immigration Partnership's Services Brochure

Huron County Immigration Partnership has put together a brochure listing government-funded services for newcomers in Huron and Perth for schools. It highlights the services of Huron Perth Public Health, Rural Response for Healthy Children, Centre for Employment and Learning, The YMCA of Three Rivers and the YMCA of South Western Ontario. The brochure will be distributed to school administration in June.

Summary of Perception of Discrimination Survey

The Perception of Discrimination survey conducted in late March and early April received randomized responses from 600 respondents in Huron and Perth, and over 5500 responses region-wide. The data will be analyzed in July as part of the larger Western University research project, and the initial report will be released in fall 2021.
