----------

Hi everyone!

I hope that all is well with you! Please accept my best wishes, along with those of all of us here at GMT Games, for a safe and joyous Christmas/Holiday season and a happy and healthy New Year!

I noted in our last update that we thought it was highly likely that we'd be shut down again, given the virus situation in California. But we avoided being shut down in the mass stay-at-home order from the governor a couple weeks back because he decided to allow retail (online or physical) operations to remain open at 20% capacity. As long as that remains the case, and as long as we feel like we can maintain a safe environment for our employees, we'll stay open.

Overall, our Central Valley region currently has 0% ICU capacity and a continuing spread of the virus. So it's not the greatest situation, even with the current lockdown, and our region of the state is one that may well be the target of tighter lockdowns after Christmas. We don't have any say over that, so we are proceeding with operations (day shift only for now) for as long as we can, in hopes that we can ride this out while continuing to give our employees a paycheck, a safe environment to work in, and good health benefits if someone does get sick.

New P500 Charges Coming January 10. As you know, we haven't charged for any new P500 games since early November. But we haven't forgotten about you P500 supporters! We plan to begin charges again, assuming we can stay open, with a new charge on January 10th for Imperial Struggle, 2nd Printing and Dominant Species: Marine. So if you don't have a P500 order in yet but want one of both of those games, please get your order in before January 10 and make sure your credit card details are current in your account on our website.

------------
Multi-Game Update Kit Progress Report. The multi-game update kit that I announced in the September update (see here for details if you missed it) is slated to arrive in the warehouse along with Dominant Species Marine and Imperial Struggle. We'll ship the Update Kit along with orders for those two games and then separately to the rest of those who either ordered the 1st printing of Imperial Struggle, All Bridges Burning, or Versailles 1919 direct from us earlier this year. If you got those games from a retailer and not direct from us and you would like an update kit, please contact our office folks and let them know to put you on the list. Thanks!

Map Replacements for The Last Hundred Yards Vol 2: Airborne Over Europe. Unfortunately, we had a disconnect in our production comms which resulted in the maps for LHY Vol 2 being printed as paper maps (the normal industry standard) instead of the thicker maps included for Volume 1. Now this is a stand-alone volume, and the map content itself is fine, so don't worryyou can play the game as intended now. But we want to make sure that the map production is consistent throughout the entire series, so we are reprinting the maps on the thicker stock. Tony says this will take about 90 days to accomplish.

For those of you who ordered the game through our P500 program, you don't need to do anything. We'll send you the maps free of charge when we get them in the warehouse. For anyone who may have already purchased the game from a retailer, please contact our office folks and ask them to add you to the list for the free map replacements. To limit the number of incorrect games we have out there, we have halted all sales of the game until the new maps come in. After we ship replacement maps to everyone who needs a set, we will open all of our warehouse stock and replace the maps with new ones, then resume taking and fulfilling orders for this product. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Again, though, you can play the game just fine as is, so if you have it already, have fun!

GMT's Games Honored with Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards by the 2020 Paris Open (OPJH) Awards! These awards were for "Best International History Games" published in 2019. Congratulations to designers Volko Ruhnke (Nevsky - Gold), Mark Simonitch (Stalingrad '42 - Silver), and Bruce Mansfield (Gandhi - Bronze), as well as all the dedicated and talented members of their development and art teams. As a lifetime gamer myself, I want to thank and honor Volko, Mark, and Bruce for their skillful blending of such diverse and creative systems, compelling topics, and deep, engaging gameplay to bring history to life on our gaming tables. And thank you to all of our gaming friends in France and especially to all the great folks at Open De Paris Des Jeux D'Histoire for the recognition of our teams' work and for their organization's ongoing positive contributions to our hobby.

Reprints of Panzer Series and MBT Heading to the Printer in February. For you fans of Jim Day's Panzer and MBT series games who've bemoaned their Out of Stock status, you don't have much longer to wait. Tony let me know recently that he has secured financing to reprint Panzer and expansions 12, and 3plus MBT in early 2021. These will not be huge print runs, so if you want to get in on the Panzer or MBT fun, head to the P500 list and order soon!

Check Out Punched, Issue #1. The folks at Cardboard Emperors recently released the first issue of their online magazine, Punched. It's very well laid out and illustrated (props to Donal Hagerty who many of you will recognize for his beautiful work on Versailles 1919, among other GMT games), with articles from creator James Buckley. The content covers the broader hobby but is chock-full of GMT-focused features and reviews. This issue even includes a Strategy Guide for Labyrinth and a free downloadable print-n-play game from designer Fred Serval (who designed Red Flag Over Paris for us)! So, as time permits over the holidays, give Punched a read.

New P500 Reprint Additions. We are adding two P500 Reprints this month for two of our best-selling games: Fire in the Lake and SpaceCorp. We'll likely print these sometime in mid-2021, so get your P500 order in early to lock in your discount.

Fire in the Lake, 3rd Printing

SpaceCorp, 2nd Printing

P500 Expansions/Upgrades/Mounted Maps. None this time.

------------
P500 Removals. I'm always sad to have to take a game off of our P500 list. But, due to lack of orders, we have removed Drop Zone: Southern France from the P500 list and returned the rights to designer Dan Fournie. Thankfully, my understanding is that Dan has found a new home for his game with Worthington Publishing, so look for information from them coming soon. Once they have it up for pre-order, I'll include a note and a link in a future customer update so those of you who want the game won't miss it.

------------

Here is a brief tease for P500 additions lining up in the coming months. Note that this is not a comprehensive list, so I will switch these up a bit from month to month. Over the coming 1-6 months, I anticipate that we will add:
  • A new design from Matt Calkins
  • A game that features the French Resistance
  • A game that features Hannibal
  • New content for Fields of Fire
  • An updated GMT version of another "oldie but goodie" wargame

Thanks to a combination of talents from a variety of skilled videographers and game teachers, we are developing a significant base of "How to Play" videos for our games. If you want to learn one of our games but learning from a rulebook just isn't your thing, or if you'd just like to "let a friend teach you the game" (as so many of us do when we can do face-to-face gaming), check out these excellent teaching videos!

Project Updates

This month's Congress of Vienna updates/retrospective is better suited as an article than paragraphs for this newsletter, so Rachel has published it in Inside GMT today. Please click the link below to check it out!

Congress of Vienna : Update and Look Back on an Exciting Year - by Frank Esparrago and Fred Schachter

Multi-Project Update - Designer Mark Simonitch

THE US CIVIL WAR, 2ND PRINTING: I'm working closely with developer Jim Dauphinais to improve the readability of the rules, make clarifications, and add/adjust rules to improve the playing experience. Testing of the minor changes is still on going, but I hope to send it to the printer in February/March. Rules will be posted in Consim for review before we send it.

SALERNO '43: I'm finally feeling happy with the testing and tuning and expect to wrap this up in February with a possible Spring or Summer printing.

NORMANDY '44, 3RD PRINTING: My developer Kevin Bernatz has helped my go through everything to make sure all questions generated from the Consim boards got answered or clarified in the rules. The minor typos from the 2nd Printing have been fixed. This is basically done, I just need to incorporate Kevin's last few catches and post the rules for review for a few weeks before I send it off to the printer. - Mark

Multi-Project Update - Director of Development Jason Carr

Fall of Saigon

We're very excited that Fall of Saigon has gotten into layout. The Event cards and Player Aids are completed and being edited by our team, and we're working on finishing the card history and tips for the playbook. The bots are also progressing nicely, with our testers commenting on the historicity of the NVA and ARVN bots in the 2 player game. With a game of this complexity, we are aiming for getting the narrative right first, then getting a competitive play experience. This is a special challenge because we want the bots to be usable and consistent with our Tru'ng bot for Fire in the Lake.

The Weimar Republic

TWR has been delayed a lot by the circumstances of 2020, but our playtesters have continued to iterate and polish. We have taken a step back to ensure that the tempo of the game is right, which has confirmed for us the validity of the underlying model. Tweaking AP costs and event cards is a lot easier than reworking the underlying model! Once these changes are complete, we will fully turn our attention to the solo play, which is something we have been working on for quite some time.

SpaceCorp: Ventures

Ventures is at the printer! If you haven't checked out the new solitaire variant from Ventures, we posted it as a free, professionally laid out print-and-play that you can use with your SpaceCorp base game. It's a real challenge
good luck! In the meantime, check out these two final HQs, and see if you can figure out a good strategy for each one:

People Power

If you haven't seen the latest development update from People Power, head over to Inside GMT for a quick read. Ken and the playtest team, led by Jon Carter, have done a ton of work to balance the base scenario for People Power. To aid entry into the COIN series, we have stripped down the basic scenario to the simplest parts. Players can then layer on Personality cards and Acts of Desperation in a modular fashion; these modules can be mixed-and-matched, so veteran players will be able to use all the bells and whistles. This modular design has been quite a challenge, but we feel it is worth it to create an entry-point to the COIN series. - Jason
