The excitement of WestKnits 2022 MKAL knitting begins today!
Four weeks, four clues ~ and it is always a knitting adventure,
I do hope you are joining in!
Socktober is a world-wide effort to provide socks to folks in need. This has been around for years, and was the brainchild of Brad Montague of Arkansas. Here is a link that tells us a bit more about this altruistic effort ... Socktober!

This is our third year of collecting socks during the month. Here's how we help ~ bring in two pair (as in two pair, not two socks ... two socks only makes one pair) of new socks (no, they don't need to be hand knit), you will receive 20% off your entire purchase (this is a one-time offering during the month of October, so you might as well stock up)! At the end of the month, we'll deliver socks to The Ark (our community outreach facilitator here in South Cheatham County) and to Soles4Souls for distribution. Last year we collected 126 pairs of socks, let's kick that up a notch!
Knitters, it is time. WestKnits 2022 MKAL begins today! If you haven't found your perfect colors yet, get on in here ~ we have a shop full of wonderful fingering weight yarns to choose from (and we still have kits available in some of our favorite combos)!

The most frequent comment I hear ini the shop is "Oh, I could never do that"! Well, yes, you can. WestKnits religiously posts a video (or sometimes more) that accompanies each clue. These are so very well done, making those apparently miraculous twists & turns very, very doable. Plus we have a support group here if you get in the weeds! One thing I would recommend adding to your project bag ... something for a lifeline, every time there is a section/stitch change. With fingering weights, unwaxed dental floss is my go-to! (No, we don't sell dental floss in the shop. Except for those things we use for beading ... but I digress.)

To kick things off, we're hosting a (dutch treat) Cast On Party at SkyKing Pizza from 5 to 7 or so. (And yes, I'm aware I posted "Turnbull Provisions" on Instagram ... wrong). Amy (wearer of many hats - SkyKing Pizza AND Turnbull Provisions) has reserved us a space in their side room, so bring your project & bring your friends ~ come join us, this is do much fun (mostly)!

Hopefully we will have a 'show & tell' for everyone to show us their WestKnits projects & tell us a bit about their adventure. Bring 'em if you've got 'em, they are always different and always inspirational ~ show us your knits!

If you need to wind your yarn, come early (like ... yesterday!). The shop will be open Thursday until 5, our swift & winder are all set up!

(I'm all packed up and ready to cast on, just need to download that first clue ... even did a swatch today. Say what???)
Not usually caught in the wild ...  actually knit a swatch!
(and gotta pump that contrast color up!)
My project bag (above) is chock-full of my favorite tools & accessories, most of which are from CocoKnits! How would I pick my favorite favorites? I dunno ... but think it may be the Precious Metal stitch markers in that precious little magnetic box. Or their Stitch Fixer. Or the Kraft Caddy & Makers Board & Mesh Bags (perfect little skein bags!) ~ which are made with their washable (yes, washable!) kraft paper. Here's the link to their tutorial for laundry guidance! We currently have all of these in stock (as well as other goodies)!

CocoKnits also has some lovely patterns ... a few of my personal favorites are Natalie and Zoe and Cleo. And if you're interested in succulents (and who isn't), these little Felted Pods are quick & easy & oh-so-cute! These can be purchased through the shop, we can just drop them in your Ravelry library (or you can purchase them yourself, but why would you when you can support the shop?).
Thanks to all of you who shopped our Forbidden Fiber Co. Halloween Trunk Show ... it was a lot of fun! Kimberly Keaveny is the WINNER of the lovely door prize they sent ... 13 mini skeins from their 2021 Halloween box, and the hand-dyed project bag! Love you, Kimberly ~ congratulations!
Enough? Lets talk about a couple of classes and we'll be done! Please note, we have changed our October 29 date to accommodate "Fiber in the Boro" in Murfreesboro that weekend. For some reason we aren't receiving their information this year. Here are our current offerings ...
Saturdays, October 22, November 5 & 12
$60 ~ pattern, yarn & 6 hours of instruction included!
You'll need to have:
US#4 & #6 needles - DPNs, short circulars, or magic loop ~ your choice;
and a cable needle.
(This is an advanced knitting class ... you need to know
(1) how to knit; and
(2) be familiar with knitting in the round!)

We're using TinCanKnits brand new 'Timber' pattern
for these precious fingerless mitts!
You'll learn cabling, magic loop, and making a thumb gusset.
These are knit in the round using a DK weight yarn.
We'll explain & demo magic loop ...
or you can use DPNs, or short little circulars!
Jay is your instructor!

(because we would be remiss to not have a sock class during the month of Socktober!)
Saturdays, October 22 and November 5
12:30-2:30 (yes, p.m.)
$55 + yarn + needles (pattern is included)
Learning to knit socks with worsted weight yarn
is the way to begin, and we'll get you through it!
Toe up on a US#7 9" circular needle, so it is also quick!
Jay Hass is your instructor
(and also our foot model!)
That's all for now ... hope you will join us tonight or our WestKnits Cast On at SkyKing this Thursday (SkyKing, not Turnbull Provisions), 5-ish until we're done (they close at 9, folks)!

Yours in yarn,
