The Haven would like to celebrate the volunteer, Susan Stephenson, who has also served on The Haven's Board of Directors for four years including a term as the Board Chair. Susan has always been a huge supporter of The Haven and uses her love for quilting to support The Haven. Thanks so much for all your hard work, Susan!
Pearl Boutique's "Shop 'Til It Stops" sale was a huge success! Shop owner, Tammy Brock, was gracious enough to hold a fundraiser selling gently worn clothing items for $5 and $10 that garnered over $1,500 that went directly to support the work of The Haven. We would like to thank Tammy Brock and all of the folks who came by to check us out!

Make sure you check out Pearl Boutique in Kilmarnock!
The crew over at the shelter are not letting a global pandemic slow them down. On the fifth episode of Hearts & Crafts, Deanna had a special guest: 6 year old Natalia! This episode focuses on mindfulness and using our HEARING to be mindful. Natalia walks us through how she did her craft. And here are directions below!

You’ll need:
Birdseed
Plain Cheerios
Peanut Butter (or another nut butter if you can’t have peanuts!)
Scissors
Paper towels
Knife/spreader

Directions:
1.With help from an adult, cut out any shape that you want!
2.You can even cut a slit and a hole at the center to make it easy to hang on a tree!
3.Put a towel or newspaper down in case it gets messy, then spread peanut butter all over!
4.Now take a deep breath and decorate with birdseed and cheerios! Do any design you want!
5.Now, go and hang your birdfeeder on a tree! You can throw out the extra seed and cheerios to feed the birds, too. Take deep breaths as you watch the birds come and go. This is mindfulness!

For the past couple of months, The Haven has been working with Jay Lightfoot's Advanced CIS (Computer Information Systems) class at Northumberland High School. The class is part of the VA STAR - Student Training and Refurbishment Program that enables students to take excess equipment, mainly from the federal government, to rebuild and give away.

The students manage the VA STAR program as a school-based enterprise that holds "business meetings" where guests present their need and the students decide on the donation of equipment. Additionally, the students also manage a budget for the program which is maintained by the sale of a limited number of computers.

The Haven was lucky enough to be a recipient of laptops refurbished by the NHS Advanced CIS class. The computers will be used to support program participants and the work of The Haven.
