This year’s seen a beautiful growing season in the Western Cape thanks to the large amount of winter rain we’ve received. The vineyards are all currently busy with berry set, with little millerandage, fairly even growth – with the wind doing it's natural tipping in some vineyards. But all in all, the vines are looking healthy.

SONDAGSKLOOF
Introducing my latest range Sondagskloof: The grapes for this wine were sourced from a small ward called Sondagskloof or Sandy's Glen situated near Stanford. The vineyards are currently converting to biodynamic farming.
Christiaan Eedes from Winemag gave them the following review:
Sondagskloof White 2018
“From Sauvignon Blanc, 50% skin fermented and then matured for six months in new oak, 50% barrel fermented and matured for six months before the two components were blended and returned to barrel for a further 10 months. A compelling nose of peach, nectarine, blackcurrant and some mushroom-like character while the palate is rich yet balanced – plenty of fruit weight plus a great line of acidity, the finish super-long. Possesses both depth and detail. Alcohol: 13%.”
Editor’s rating: 96/100
Sondagskloof Syrah 2018
“Matured for 16 months in French oak. Red and black berries, a brush of vanilla plus subtle notes of white pepper, lilies and fynbos. Full bodied and smooth-textured, this has good fruit definition, quite gentle acidity and a gently savoury finish.”
Editor’s rating: 92/100

WINEMAG SAUV/SEM REPORT 2019

Winemag has undertaken a detailed examination of the two sub-categories on an annual basis since 2013 and this year’s findings are now out. There were 29 blend entries (from 24 producers) and 23 wooded Sauvignon blanc entries (from 21 producers), and these were tasted blind (labels out of sight) by a three-person panel, scoring done according to the 100-point quality scale.

I'm thrilled to have been nominated as one of the top 10 performers in the Winemag #SauvSemReport 2019 for the Reserve Sem I Sauv 2017.

Scores:

FESTIVE WISHES
As we're nearing the end of the year and getting ready for a much-needed break, I'd like to thank you all for the incredible support throughout the year. If it wasn't for you, I would not have been making wine. Winemaking is definitely not a solo journey. From everyone helping out at the vineyard and in the winery; to the logistics/warehousing, marketing, administration and sales people; to the wine lovers buying my wine; to the critics and judges writing about our wines – you all make it happen. So a big thank you to all of you from the bottom of my heart.

I wish you all a peaceful Christmas.

Warm Regards,
Trizanne
