Over 350 of South Africa’s wine producers came together at CapeWine (12-14 September) to showcase their finest wines to the world. Buyers, importers, sommeliers, retailers, media and restauranteurs from across the globe came to our country’s premier wine showcase.
ZooCru
It was a privilege for me to
colab with the ZooCru, a group of exceptional wine producers and friends of mine.
We collaborated for the first time back in 2015 at CapeWine.
This year our theme was throwing it back to the 80s. It took nine months of planning (over a few beers). We decked out our stand during the three-day build with graffiti, old-school movie posters, disco lights, gorillas and 'gees'.
From mullets to shoulder pads to leopard print...we had it all.
Three days of showcasing our wines, a rocking party of 250 guests boogying to 80s songs, and just an incredible vibe from everyone visiting made CapeWine 2018 one of the best by far.
A massive thank you to
WOSA for pulling it all together, to my ZooCru colleagues for being absolute champions, and to all the local and international trade and media visiting the Cape to experience South African wines.
Tim Atkin: South Africa Special Report 2018
Tim Atkin – a British Master of Wine and an award-winning wine journalist, broadcaster and commentator and an impartial expert of South African wines – has released his seventh report about South African Wine.
Tim, who regularly visits South Africa, is an incredible taster who has ingrained himself in our industry. In his 2018 report alone he has tasted over 2 000 wines and has written 1 350+ tasting notes.
In Tim's own words:
''This report is by far the longest I have published, based on a lot of tasting, travelling and hard work. Why do I put in the long hours, including a three-week trip in the depths of the Cape winter? The answer is because the wines, the places and especially the people inspire me. There’s something happening in South Africa that is unique in the wine world. Call it energy, call it creativity, call it optimism, call it all three. But it's apparent to anyone who visits the Cape."
I'm thrilled to have received the following scores from Tim Atkin:

Trizanne Signature Wines Reserve Sem I Sauv  2017         94
Trizanne Signature Wines Semillon 2017 93
Trizanne Signature Wines Reserve Syrah 2017    91
Trizanne Signature Wines Sauvignon Blanc 2018 90
Trizanne Signature Wines Barbera 2017 90

Neal Martin: South African Report 2018
Neal Martin is one of the most acclaimed wine critics internationally. He recently reviewed more than 900 South African wines and when one of the most respected and most fastidious international wine critics have the following to say about your industry:
"The truth is that the Cape is one of the most mind-bogglingly beautiful landscapes you will ever visit, where jagged mountains soar up to heavens and cascade into oceans; fynbos-covered hillsides are home to startling flora and fauna. There is poverty and inequality. Yet, visit a winery and so often you see how the industry benefits the local community irrespective of skin colour, providing not just stable jobs for pickers, but homes, schools and hospitals.
Yes, there is crime if you look for it, however I have rarely met such friendly and joyous people as in South Africa. The Cape is a visceral, unforgettable experience. Every single person whose feet have touched South African soil returns with shattered preconceptions and a desire to return as soon as possible. Maybe it is my job to shatter the preconceptions attached to the wines."
...one feels immensely proud and that we're on the right track.
My wines rated as follows:

Trizanne Signature Wines Syrah 2016   93
Trizanne Signature Wines Reserve Syrah 2017  91
Trizanne Signature Wines Reserve Sem I Sauv  2017  90
