The last month was spent touring Europe, bottling my wines, and planning exciting new things. 
I travelled to Europe in the beginning of June to visit my importers in Belgium, Germany and Norway.
My first visit was to Arnd in Rudolstadt, Germany. 
I was lucky enough to attend Arnd’s annual Spring Fair which granted me the opportunity to showcase my wines to all his German clients.
It was a great day with fantastic German foods like the infamous Bratwurst from Thüringen.
Besides my South African wines, we also poured some lovely German Rieslings and other wines from the Nahe region.
It was lovely to be in the heart of Germany to experience the enthusiasm of the arrival of Spring.
I then jetted over to the town of Kruibeke in Belgium to spend some time with Stefaan, my oldest wine importer whom I've been working with since 2010. We did an amazing food and wine pairing at the De Ceder Restaurant.
We paired some of my older vintages with beautiful local cuisine, and enjoyed the pairing evening with a full house of wonderful Belgians who were all very enthusiastic about wine and South Africa.
The next morning I missioned to Norway, arriving in the beautiful city of Bergen to meet up with Nordic Ventures to start a 2-day kayaking expedition on the Fjords. What an incredible adventure!

I jumped on a plane that night, off to Oslo, Norway.
On Monday morning I met up with Vinarius to start a 3-day launch of TSW to the Norwegian market, visiting various restaurants, wine bars and journalists.
I truly enjoyed experiencing the Norwegian hospitality, especially my importer’s, and sharing the TSW story and wines with the Norwegians. Norway has been incredible from start to finish, and I'm really so lucky to be part of this dynamic market.
I have bottled 6 wines in June and I’m super happy with all of them. But, before releasing them at the end of the year, I’m giving them enough time in bottle. 
In addition to last year’s Elim Sémillon, I have managed to bottle another Elim Sémillon 2018, as the dryer conditions of the 2018 vintage has yet again been very favourable for the Sémillon grapes in particular, which allowed me to select a small parcel to be fermented and bottled separately. 
Other exciting wines to join the TSW family is a skin-fermented Blanc Fumé and a Syrah from the Sondagskloof ward near Stanford. Watch this space, as I’ll be sharing more info on the vineyards and the wines closer to their release.
The Reserve Sauv I Sem 2018 has also been bottled last week, and will be released later this year – you'll be the first to know.
The Darling Barbera 2018 was bottled earlier in the year. Here is a short clip on the vineyards and the wine.
I've just discovered the perfect South African food match for it. As we know, Barbera does really well with Italian food styles due to its higher acidity, so any tomato based foods are well complimented by this wine. But what is truly South African and has a deliciously tangy acidity? Waterblommetjie bredie.
I was pleasantly surprised by how well the acidities matched up.
My advice is not to overcook your waterblommetjies (I prefer them relatively firm and not completely soft and cooked away). Make sure to use lemon with the lamb and the waterblommetjies. It’s a great match! Especially for these cold winter nights we have experienced.

Heading up to Jozi for Ex Animo's trade event and showcasing the TSW range as well as the TSW Sauvignon Blanc 2019 for the first time. The annual portfolio trade and media tasting will be held at La Boqueria in Parktown North on Monday the 15th of July from 3pm to 5pm.

This year we’re celebrating the 20th birthday of the Vintner’s Surf Classic. On Friday 16 August 2019, surfer-winemakers of the Cape will gather in Still Bay to surf against each other and to hang out together, catching up and drinking wine.
