Preventing Rats From
Entering Your Home
When rats find ways into your home, they can make life messy. The best strategy to protect your home starts with keeping these pests from entering your home. Once an infestation has begun, they can be difficult to remove. Here are some tips you can take to protect your home.

1. Make sure all to fill all gaps, cracks, and holes.
Check your home for any openings the size of a quarter or more significant. Rats can slip their bodies through holes that size to enter your home. When sealing these cracks and holes, make sure you are working with the proper materials.

2. Never feed rats. Rats are incredibly resourceful pests. They will find things to eat in or around your home. So make sure you have all of your garbage cans securely closed, and don't forget to protect your hard work and pick produce from your garden.

3. Remove their ability to build a home. These pests will make a home out of almost anything. If you have firewood outside, make sure you store it at least 18 inches above the ground and at least a foot away from your home.
4. Trim tree limbs back from your home to reduce their ability to get onto your home. Remember to also trim and remove vegetation around your home, because rats like to use this as a hiding place.

5. Set traps inside your home. There are several commercially available and humane traps available to homeowners. These traps are great to catch rats inside your home that are not dangerous to pets and children, such as cage traps.

6. Call a professional. The best way to eliminate rats from your home is to call on professionals when you see the signs of a potential rat infestation. Rats can be dangerous, so it's best not to take any chances when trying to deal with them. Hiring an expert to help will give you better and faster results than doing it yourself.
