Preparing for Something Awesome
Last week we talked about John the Baptist.
Why did God send someone to prepare the way?
Was that really necessary?
Imagine how he felt being the only one in the wilderness, talking about the coming Messiah, when God had not spoken to the people of Israel in over 400 years. People must have thought he was out of his mind, that he did not make any sense.
Maybe they were right. It did not make logical sense, you could only see what John saw through faith. One of the biggest lessons I learned this past week is that preparation takes faith.
"Preparation Takes Faith"
Jesus said John was one of the greatest ever! I am convinced it was because he had the faith to see not only what was in front of him but to see what was coming and in turn, prepare for it.
The question I have for you this week is this.
How are you preparing for God to move? Move in your life, move in our church, move in this city, move in our next bible study?
Over this next season I would like to prepare the ground for our future church to be planted in. This starts with us preparing our hearts first and next preparing the ground for God to move in a powerful way. Below is the vision and our first plan for this season.
Vision: To Develop a core group of spiritually strong people who are committed to building a life giving community in Los Angeles.
I can only imagine the day that we all get to stand together in a gathering and see how God will use us to reach people, change families, create and restore marriages, bring freedom, create wholeness, and see Jesus move in a beautiful way.
The beautiful thing about this vision is that it starts now. We don't have to wait until we have a gathering to help people connect to Jesus, grow, and find wholeness. Every activity, bible study, community dinner, hang out, should have an intention of bringing life and building community. So over this next season we will be leaning into this vision and building community together.
So here is the first plan:
Starting May 3 we will be leading a 5 week bible study called ALPHA.
The intention will be to help people connect to Jesus or to grow in their current relationship with him. Each one of us will learn how to lead an ALPHA study, grow in your ability to teach others, create environments that people far and close to God feel comfortable and lead by example what it looks like to serve on our core team. I believe that we will find so many more individuals that will want to join us in building this community.
This weeks actions steps:
1. The best leaders are ones that learn to lead themselves.
What are you reading? What is God saying to you? Come ready to share
2. Would you spend time each day praying for our community? Last week I texted a few friends to pray for us and God gave us $10,000 towards our church the very next day! Our prayer goal this year is to raise $150,000.
3. I would like to start reading Leadership by the Book. Does everybody have a copy?
4. Would you make this the best bible study/community group you have ever been to? I REALLY NEED YOUR HELP.
Help by leaning in to invest in the space and people as well as invite friends, strangers, and whoever else would benefit.
I would love your input on strategy, how to make ALPHA effective, and what role you would like to contribute. If you haven't please download the "Vintage Church Alpha" app in the app store. Go to The Alpha Book sections and choose a topic you would be most interested in leading!!!!
Here is a link we will use to sign people in that we invite.
