The timeless teachings of Advaita Vedanta propel the mind into nondual awareness, the pure knowing of I Am That, I am the all-inclusive Divine, which resounds through your every breath with the mantra Hamsa. Via a guided meditation on Hamsa and the breath, Lawrence leads us into that calm state freedom from the mind. This state is what the ancient sage Dattatreya wrote about in the Avadhuta Gita, which serves as a reading contemplative practice for dissolving the mind and limitations of ego-hood into the ocean of Consciousness and Bliss known as pure "I Am" awareness. I Am That - that being all that is, all that isn't, all that transcends mind and conventional knowledge. This is the heart of nondual Vedanta. Hamsa - I am That! Tat twam asi - Thou art That! This is what mystics of every tradition come to experience directly. This is the goal of sadhana - spiritual practice. Take refuge over and over in the practices, mantras, chants and contemplations which strengthen our ability to abide in our true nature despite the challenges we face. Come home to your Self throughout the day and your Divine nature will ease the mind and body of their burdens. Your boundless Heart is boundless Mind, all-encompassing, no one, no thing left out of the ocean of Love. Only one who is free from the horrible trap of craving for sense-enjoyment, so hard to renounce, is ready for liberation - and no other, even though they may be schooled in the six systems of philosophy...

Know that the deluded man who walks the dreadful path of sense-craving, moves nearer to his ruin with every step.  And know this to be true also - that he who walks the path indicated by his teacher, who is his truest well-wisher, and by his own better judgement, reaps the highest fruit of the knowledge of Brahman, [the Absolute]...

He who tries to find the Atman [the Self] by feeding the cravings of the body, is trying to cross a river by grasping a crocodile, mistaking it for a log.

Dear Friends,

Our mission at Anam Cara is to make meditation training freely available to everyone and to support people in their ongoing meditation practices. We do this through free weekly programs now on Zoom, our website, YouTube, and this e-newsletter.

Please subscribe to our YouTube channel for free and "like" the videos you enjoy!  Simply doing this helps to make our offerings more available to others.

The Thursday night meditation group Zoom link with added security is https://us02web.zoom.us/j/665891390?pwd=RDBZSFBTd0dpNTZwQzFoKzVEUUtYdz09. Please keep your audio and video off during the program, at the end we open it up to everyone.  This ensures the best quality recording for posting on YouTube. Meeting 665 891 390.  password: OmKaliMa. The program begins at 7:15pm NY time.

Given the state of turmoil in the world, it is especially important that we have an inner state of calm centeredness that empowers us to bring wisdom, compassion and transformation into the world. This is Dharma in action, living a dedicated life of practice and seva in the world.  The practices protect and envelop us in Dharma Shakti, the power of Dharma.  Adhering to dharma, the ego mind becomes a selfless servant of All, the One that has become the many. Meditation culminates in knowing directly that you are the One and the many, nothing left out.  Tat twam asi!  Thou Art That!

In this dark age, when dharma is on her last leg, we are her legs, we have to stand for dharma, walk dharma into the world, be dharma warriors actively walking love, compassion, wisdom and service into the world. In the past it was fine to wrap oneself in practices, merge into unity Consciousness and let go of the rest of the world.  Not now!  Out of the caves, out of monasteries, off our cushions, we have to take dharma, the truth, the love, the wisdom, the compassion, and the practices, fearlessly into all environments. We may cry a river of tears for all the pain and suffering in the world even as we stand as a pillar of fire, the fire of love and compassion, illuminating the way forward, the way of dharma in action.

Be the light that illumines all around you! You are the living Presence of the Divine!  Be true to your true nature!

When I was offering meditation programs in prisons for years I saw the power of grace, Shakti Kundalini, inherent in the mantras and practices, transform even the lives of murderers.  We need to bring the power of our practices, wisdom, love and service into the halls of power, into government and corporate headquarters and into under-served communities.  The economic and political systems we've evolved are the epitome of kali yuga - profits above all, empty, afflicted individuals voraciously consuming the environment and oppressing people with no end to their hunger for power and possessions.  Our afflicted, unconscious, and undisciplined minds give rise to endless suffering.  We can view the mind, our own and others, with understanding and compassion as we endeavor to create global change.

May our practices empower us to be agents of wakefulness, love and compassion as we work to transform our world.

Meditation is key to our inner and outer transformation. Through meditation we directly experience our innate fullness, free of want or need.  In meditation we directly experience our unity with all - the illusion of "other" is dispelled.

There is only One, the Divine, known by many different names, but always One. One all-embracing Divine, One all-embracing Love.  Tat Twam Asi!  Thou Art That!

As a non-profit educational organization we are grateful for the support of participants and donors whose generosity makes all this possible. Because of your generous gifts we are in our 20th year of serving meditators and seekers around the world. I deeply appreciate the many ways people help us to fulfill our mission, including sharing this newsletter with others and telling people about our programs.  It's a privilege for me to serve the Anam Cara community.  Please contact me, le@anamcara-ny.org, if you have anything you would like to share with me.

With love and respect for all,
