National transport authorities in Asia are planning or developing standardised frameworks for integrated transport payments. These initiatives are typically aligned with major public transport development projects. The new standards frameworks are designed to ensure interoperability between different transport modes, provide a seamless transport experience for customers and drive adoption of public transport.
Creating Integrated Transport Networks
The Department of Transportation of the Philippines (DOTr) is driving a national program of transport sector development. A key component of this initiative is a new standards framework for open and integrated transport payments, currently undergoing consultation process with transport operators across the Philippines. The new standards will be initially deployed in transportation systems in Metro Manila and Cebu prior to wider adoption. The DOTr standards framework is designed to enable efficient public transportation systems in the Philippines by addressing the current challenges of disparate transport and ticketing payment schemes that are largely cash-based and lacking integration.
