In 1995 the world's first automated fare collection scheme based on contactless transport cards launched in Seoul. Although revolutionary, the lack of integration between bus and metro led the Seoul Metropolitan Government to develop a new integrated transport payments system. Tmoney launched in 2004 and is now recognised as a leading integrated transport ticketing scheme.
Expanding to Ensure Seamless Mobility
Since 2004, Tmoney has enabled customers to use any brand of smart card whether prepaid or credit card for transport payments on all buses, subways and taxes in the region. Today, 15 years after its launch, Tmoney continues to achieve key milestones including nationwide interoperability, service expansion to a mobile payments platform, expansion to non-transport applications and to express bus services outside of urban areas. At Transport Payments Asia Pacific 2019, the regional meeting of Asian transit authorities, transport operators and ticketing schemes, Tmoney will introduce latest developments and future plans including AI-powered taxis and cooperative intelligent transport systems (C-ITS) on public buses.
