Opportunities of the Week
Roundup #16

Thursday, August 2
Missed the last newsletter? Revisit it here. [July 31]

1. Thanks to everyone who's completed the survey already. And if you haven't, please do because even though I barely passed AP Stats, I do know that 260 people is not an adequate sample size for a population of over 2000. (I think) Did I mention that there's a prize?!
2. I included a number of tangentially related opportunities under the list of traditional ones.
3. I appreciate people forwarding me emails from editors about accepting pitches/looking for new writers, however, please don't share anything unless you have the sender's permission or you see that they've posted it on social media.
4. We're a little more than halfway to my somewhat arbitrary goal of $300/month on Patreon. Once I hit that, I'll be sending out one profile of a subscriber per month. Patreon/Paypal contributors get first priority, but ultimately, everyone is welcome to throw their hat in the ring. I'll let you know when the goal is hit and submissions are open.

1. The rules and regulations are at the bottom. If you haven't already given them a glance, please do.
2. I want to share the articles you've landed. Send 'em my way and I'll include them in the next newsletter.
3. As always, I'm here if you need. Feel free to email ( if you want advice/feedback/someone to listen/a pep talk/music recommendations etc. I'm also well versed in millennial ennui if you just want someone to scream with.
4. I RT full time jobs. @weischoice

Adoption Corner
Located in NYC and interested in adopting a furry friend? From the owner: "Irving is a beautiful 3 yr old, healthy, vaccinated, neutered boy cat. He is playful, and he loves being around people, snoozing happily while he overhears their chatter. I originally adopted Irving from Brooklyn Animal Action with the intention of staying in NYC, but due to unforeseen Visa reasons my partner and I need to leave the US. I am writing a dissertation about modern literature, and Irving has always been a lovely writing companion. We live in the village (near NYU) and are looking for a loving home for Irving. Get in touch at for more info about Irving and to set up a time to meet."

Rules and Regulations

1. I'm just the messenger. I literally know NOTHING.
2. To that end: I have opted to include opportunities from publications that I may not endorse/think pay enough etc. It's up to you to do your research and decide if you want your name associated with any given company.
3. Occasionally I'll edit a tweet if it refers to another tweet that is irrelevant in this context.
4. The links connected to twitter handles go directly to the tweet. Don't pitch until you read the full threads in case they are no longer looking for pitches or have useful guidelines.
5. If editors are asking for people of certain demographics and you are not a member of those demographics, don't send them pitches anyway.
6. There is no such thing as a stupid question unless the question has already been answered in a public place. Do your research.
7. I don't include full time positions, but I do retweet the ones I see. Follow me (or keep an eye on me) @weischoice
8. This newsletter will always be free, however, if you can, please contribute via Patreon. Every $1/month helps me dedicate time to searching for opportunities and creating new resources. I love helping the freelance writer community, but just like many of you, I am also frantic about making ends meet. I truly can't continue making free newsletters without the support of those you are in a position to give.

9. Freshbooks is an affiliate and I benefit from you clicking on the above banner and signing up for a free trial or paid subscription. That said, they also make invoicing very easy and I recommend it.
