Workday Onboarding
On July 18th, the Onboarding Module goes live in the Workday Hire Process for USC Staff New Hires. Faculty and Student New Hires will be implemented in later phases. A summary of the process flow is shown below:

Managers will receive an inbox action to create the Onboarding Dashboard and have the ability to edit the "Message", "People to Meet," and "Helpful Contacts":

Staff New Hires will then use the Onboarding Dashboard to complete required documents and get acquainted with the university and their department:

Tuition Assistance Plan Tweaked
A few minor changes affecting USC’s Tuition Assistance Benefit Plan take effect August 1. You can review the official program document here.

  • Employees must be actively at work to use Tuition Assistance for themselves. If they go on leave and are already enrolled, then can finish that semester but no further Tuition Assistance will be available until they return to work. (This does not apply to a child’s or spouse’s use of Tuition Assistance – an employee going on leave does not affect their dependents’ use of the benefit.)
  • Classes dropped by an employee after the drop deadline (as defined by that semester’s official academic calendar) will require the employee to repay the full amount of tuition assistance awarded. Failure to repay will disqualify employee from future use of the benefit. (This does not apply to classes dropped by a child or spouse.)
  • Employees who take coursework under the “job-related audit only” provision may not take the class for a grade; if they are found to have done so, they must repay the tuition awarded.
  • Tuition Assistance is designed to provide access to one degree for each participant. This applies even if an individual “qualifies” for Tuition Assistance two ways. For example, if the child of an employee earns a degree using Tuition Assistance and then later marries a USC employee, the individual still does not qualify for help with a second degree due to their status as the spouse of an employee.
