Impact on the tourism industry
As we enter the second national lock-down, the impact on the tourism industry and businesses across Torbay will be significant. Earlier this week the Torquay Chamber was interviewed by ITV and we made clear our concerns about the effect it was having on our members and the wider business community.
Whilst recognising that health has to be paramount in decision making, the economic impact that we are all feeling, will not help our general mental or physical state.
We will therefore be asking the Government for additional funds to help support the local area, to try and mitigate the far-reaching effects that this lockdown has, and will continue to cause, on all businesses supporting all aspects of the tourism trade. We will be lobbying our MP for more assistance.
Earlier today, the chancellor confirmed that he will extend the furlough scheme across the UK until the end of March with his intention "to give businesses security through the winter". He also announced billions of pounds of other support for the economy, including more money for self-employed people. For further details visit the Insurance Wire website
If you are passionate and willing, we are seeking members from the local business community to make a short appearance on ITV later this year and explain how important additional funding is for Torbay. If you think this is something you would like to be involved with please get in touch.
