You are not just a mom. You are so much more! One of the reasons we started Mother Honestly was so we could encourage other women who were struggling with their identity post-dishes and diaper changes as well as women who were seeking more conversations outside of their kids. We wanted to pull mamas out from underneath the pile of laundry and help them discover the sexy, exciting and amazing human that they are. Reminding mamas of their awesome is my lifelong passion and it's why you will find us interviewing mothers, sharing them on our media platforms and connecting with them in a meaningful way.
In this issue, we highlight two mamas Lindsay Irrer of The Barre Code and Brooke Rozmenski of Beets and Babes. They share with us relevant fitness and wellness tips that is sure to help mamas like you on the go!
MH Weekly Picks
"When I became a mom, I kind of lost myself. It was like a part of me died. I'd been this very independent person. It was all about me. But now I had this little being, and I suddenly felt l couldn't do other things and that was very hard for me. All I ever wanted was to be a mom, but when you're actually experiencing that, it's a shock." - Gisele Bundchen opens up to People Magazine on the topic of her new memoir.
Brooke Rozmenski of Beets and Babes shared a sumptuous recipe perfect for busy moms. It's also great for any mamas who are nursing, pregnant, or just had baby - the bone broth in the recipe instead of regular broth is super nourishing. This is perfect as the weather gets cooler. Its an easy dish to make and tastes even better as leftovers for on-the-go mamas.

#MHFitness Tips by The Barre Code
As a mother, you likely have already experienced how powerful of a tool our breath can be. Whether it is controlled breathing through bringing life into this world, or deep breathing as your threenager tests your patience... inhales and exhales help us find calm, control, and energy. In exercise, your breath is also incredibly powerful!
Before, during and after pregnancy, a focus on deep core breathing can help women connect to their transverse abdominals, to strengthen them, and prevent or remedy abdominal separation (diastasis recti).
During exercise at any point in a fitness journey, connection to breath can help add intensity and effectiveness to a workout. Use your exhale on the most challenging part of a movement to help add extra energy and focus to the working muscle.
Breath during your workouts, or just in life in general - whether it is a few deep breaths, or all the way to a full meditation practice - can also improve your mental health by promoting mental clarity, peace, and centeredness.
So breathe, mama, breathe! We encourage you to take 60 seconds today to close your eyes, put your hand on your belly, and take some slow inhales and exhales. Give yourself the gift of calm and collected - what isn't to love about that?!
