Dear Neighbour,

Tomorrow will be a big day as the provincial government will share Ontario’s economic and fiscal update.

I know that like me, many of you are hoping to see the province put forward significant supports for people and small businesses. We need to ensure all Ontarians are protected not only during this pandemic but through the recovery as well. You can watch the presentation by the Minister of Finance live at 4:00 p.m.
here. I will send out the key highlights in my updates tomorrow evening. Keeping social distancing, only a handful of MPPs will be present. I volunteered but was not selected to participate at this time.

As well, below I share three announcements on Hydro rates, school closures and Long Term Care homes.

Wash your hands. Stay home (unless you must work). Be kind. We are all in this together.

Today's Updates
Lower Hydro Rates
Many of you have contacted me about support with hydro bills during this uncertain time. I’m pleased that the government has listened to our concerns and
announced today that hydro rates will be temporarily lowered for the next six weeks. This will help offset higher consumption as more people work from home or remain at home in self-isolation. The Ontario Energy Board has switched to off-peak time-of-use electricity rates which will help save money. Small businesses are also eligible for reduced rates.
School Closures beyond April 6
The Premier confirmed at a press conference that students will not be returning to school on April 6 as previously planned. Right now we do not know more but the government has indicated that they are reassessing as the situation continues to change rapidly and that the decision will be made based on the advice of the Chief Medical Officer of Health. We’ve called on the provincial government to proactively work with school boards and educators on a plan for a longer closure. There’s a lot to do but together we can ensure students and families are supported.
Residents in Long Term Care Homes
There are a few temporary changes in policies for Long Term Care homes. Among the changes, one that I want to highlight is that residents are now restricted from leaving a home for short visits with family and friends. Other changes allow LTC homes greater flexibility to be able to respond to prevent and alleviate an outbreak of COVID-19. You can read the details

Community Office

While our office will be closing to the public as part of our efforts to manage the COVID-19 virus, we will continue to provide services for constituents via phone and email. Thank you for your patience and flexibility during this time.
