Since we opened our phone lines in late March, CHMA has completed 3,500 deliveries totaling some $300,000, and we’re currently spending about $1,140 per day. However, as we enter the tenth month of this crisis, our funding has declined. Though the COVID-19 caseload in New York City eased over the summer, we are seeing new infection spikes and our neighbors still face historically high rates of unemployment and food and housing insecurity. As we face a challenging winter season, our spending has gone up, and we expect this trend to continue as the holidays approach. We want to make sure that we are prepared to help neighbors through this tough time, and to make the holidays as joyful as possible under difficult circumstances.
If you’re able to help out, please make a contribution through our ioby fundraising page. No amount is too small! You can also sign up to be a recurring donor here.
Contributions made through ioby will help us keep our grocery delivery operation afloat and allow us to continue supporting our communities by:
- Enlarging our pool of delivery volunteers so that we can reach more of our neighbors more quickly.
- Working with other neighborhood organizations to help neighbors make it through a challenging winter by providing holiday food parcels, toys, and winter clothing. Continuing to expand our network of partner organizations in Crown Heights and surrounding neighborhoods.
- Building a sustainable model for our work so that Crown Heights Mutual Aid can continue to operate once the immediate public health crisis ends.
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to pose an unprecedented challenge to our collective livelihoods. But together, we can work to keep each other safe, housed, and fed.
