Enjoy your Summer

We have finished our second year together! It sure has been two incredible years, and it has been inspiring to see the Solar Community come together to help each other during these unprecedented times. I could not be prouder of how our boys quickly adjusted to a new way of learning. Way to show grit, empathy, and curiosity! It was great to see all of you during the end of year award ceremonies as we celebrated our boys' accomplishments. We will continue to prepare for the next school year during the summer, and we will communicate any updates as soon as we can.

I want to welcome our new families and let you know how thrilled we are to have you join the Solar Family. We can't wait to start getting to know you and your son better. During the summer, please read the Solar Blast and check our website for updates and at-home learning resources.

I am happy to report that we are almost fully staffed. We have carefully selected experienced educators to help us launch into a terrific third year.  Over the next few weeks, I will share the bios of our new team members. Stay tuned for more!

I hope you enjoy this new section of our newsletter. If you have any questions or topics you'd like for me to address, please email Ms. López at CELLOPEZ@dallasisd.org

As a school that leads desegregation efforts in Dallas ISD, at Solar, DEI (or diversity, equity and inclusion) is at the core of our model. We are diverse by design and we understand the great responsibility that comes with teaching a diverse group of boys. We have to be intentional about our actions and words while keeping our values as an inclusive school community at the forefront of each decision we make. Talking about race and taking action can be uncomfortable and we do not always have all of the answers, but all of our boys need us to face that discomfort and uncertainty now more than ever.

Article: Talking to Children About Racial Bias
