News and updates

It's been a busy time at Reset Communities and Refugees over the past twelve months, and we are keen to share with you some of the things that we have been doing, along with updates and opportunities for Community Sponsorship Groups in the UK.  We're always happy to hear from you, and can provide advice and support to Groups at all stages of your journey.

Growth of Community Sponsorship

Community Sponsorship continues to grow across the UK with more groups and people getting involved every week.  The recently published immigration statistics provided by the Home Office show that since the introduction of the Community Sponsorship programme in 2016, 281 refugees have been resettled through Community Sponsorship; 173 were between April 2018 and March 2019.

We’re aware of over 200 groups who are involved in the programme, whether that is working on their applications, supporting a refugee family or awaiting a family to arrive.  A huge congratulations to all Groups for their work so far on this success!

Community Sponsorship Assembly and Council

This summer, Reset is calling the UK’s first annual UK Community Sponsor Assembly. The event will bring together Community Sponsorship group members from across the country to share experiences, learn from each other and about developments in the scheme, and shape the sponsorship movement in the UK.  The Assembly will take place at the University of Birmingham at 3pm on 4th July 2019.

To find out how you can get involved, vote for members of the Council and attend the Assembly and have your voice heard, please visit our website

Community Sponsorship Research Launch

Since 2017, the Institute for Research into Superdiversity (IRiS) at the University of Birmingham has been undertaking an independent formative evaluation of Community Sponsorship and will be launching this at an event on 4th July 2019Register to attend here.

Here to help!

We know that the process to apply for Community Sponsorship can be hard, and can take a long time.  Reset and our partners are here to help every step of the way – we can provide advice, ideas and share best practice and our Team are always happy to help at every stage of your Community Sponsorship journey.

  • Don’t forget that our training and support website is available and packed full of information for all stages of the process.  You’ll need to create a website account in order to access all the resources.
  • We have recently launched an application checking service – we can take a look at your application prior to it going to the Home Office and provide feedback on these.  This can help to spot any missed information or common follow up questions that may get asked and save time once you’ve submitted your application to the Home Office. Make sure you check with your Lead Sponsor that they are happy with our checking your form before sending them in.
  • We are available to offer advice and support from the outset of you applying, right through the arrival of the refugees you will support right through to the end of your Sponsor Agreement and beyond.

Vote in the Sponsor Refugees Awards

Nominations are still open for you to vote in the 2019 Sponsor Refugees Awards, organised and hosted by Sponsor Refugees.  Nominations close on 5th July - make your voice heard here!
