Hello Members and Friends!

Welcome to our August update.  We have decided to suspend in-person meetings until at least September 19 when we plan on having our annual picnic. Unless the pandemic worsens and the state locks down again. Current details are available on the website.

We will continue to share accurate information as often as we can on social media channels and if members and friends need assistance (like you've lost a job or have to deal with family members being ill) check out our Community Outreach Resources and Education page.

If you need assistance in navigating the public assistance channels due to a job loss because of pandemic closures, send a message to me or Shawn and we can use our personal experiences to help you.

Shawn has also offered to do pick-ups for things like groceries or prescriptions if you don't feel like you can safely pick them up yourself. Just give me a call at the group number 567-302-0209 or send us an email.

Our Fall Fundraiser

For the month of August and September 2020, the Secular Humanists of Western Lake Erie will be holding a Fall Fundraiser. Our goal is to raise $1000 that will be used to support the operation of the group and educating the public about the group and Humanism for the 2021 Fiscal Year.

If you donate at least $40, you will have a choice of one of these great gifts:

1. 11 oz coffee mug with our logo and website address

2. A cloth face mask with our logo on it.

3. An aluminum water bottle with our logo

4. A tote bag with our logo.

If you donate $100 or more, you have your choice of TWO of the items above.

If you setup a monthly donation that will add up to $150 or more for the year ($15 a month for example), you will not only get to pick TWO of the premium items above but you will get a $25 gift card to a local Toledo restaurant.

Donating is easy. You can visit our Donation page and follow the instructions there to donate once or set up a monthly donation using PayPal. You can send us a check or money order to PO BOX 6433 Toledo, Ohio 43613. We also have a fundraiser event on Facebook if you would like to donate through it. We get the money faster if you use our donate page.

We will of course accept donations less than $40 but those won't qualify for the gifts during this fundraiser.

You can also help support the group by joining if you aren't a voting member, or renew your membership. Just visit our join page on the website or again send us a check or money order to the PO Box mentioned above.

Thank you in advance for the support.

The fundraiser runs from August 1, 2020 to September 30, 2020. All donations that meet the criteria will be eligible for the premium gift(s). The tax exempt value of the donation will be the total amount minus the wholesale cost of the gift in order to conform to IRS regulations. If you have any concerns or questions please send us a note using our contact page.

We Have a Wish List Page

We  have an Amazon Smile wish list that people can purchase items from and send to us. Some people, for personal reasons, refuse to shop at Amazon and we respect that. We have copied our list onto a web page on the website.

If you would like to fill our wish list but not from Amazon then just look for our items where you do shop, buy them, and send them to us at SHoWLE PO Box 6433 Toledo, OH 43613 If you would rather drop them off to us, contact us and we can arrange a drop off.

Also note that except for the books, we are not married to a particular product manufacturer on this list. For example we would like four folding chairs with padding but they don’t have to be from Flash Furniture.

Distant but Together: A Virtual Celebration of Humanism

The American Humanist Association (AHA) will host a day-long virtual conference, Distant but Together: A Virtual Celebration of Humanism, on Saturday, August 8 from 11am – 6:30pm (ET). The free event will bring together exciting humanist speakers who will explore the values and principles that undergird our community.

For more information check out:

Do you have an idea for a meeting or event?

Do you have an idea for a topic for a meeting or an activity for us to do as a group? Let us know.

If there is a particular topic or speaker you would like to see at a future meeting or have an idea for a group activity then please send us a note by email or fill out our contact form

It would help if you provided as much information as possible about the idea - like who to contact or websites to visit.

There is no guarantee SHoWLE will turn your idea into an actual meeting or event but the odds increase if you are willing to host the event and/or do a lot of the leg work.

Activities and meetings for SHoWLE depend entirely on volunteer effort.
