Mission43 Entrepreneur Course Participant Highlight

Malcolm Brown (Co-Founder, We Love Local)

Thamu Dube + Malcolm Brown (Co-Founders of WeLoLo)

Malcolm Brown grew up in Georgia, and served for 11 years in the Air Force as a crew chief on the Boeing KC-135 Stratotanker aircraft. He always had an interest in the medical field, motivating Malcolm to study athletic training following his service. Malcolm’s studies took him to Florida, back to Georgia, and Wisconsin. He came to Boise 5 years ago to pursue a job opportunity as a Clinical Athletic Trainer at St. Luke’s

Malcolm has always strived to be the best version of himself, asking: “What is my life’s work? Why am I here in Boise, Idaho? And is there more I can do?” Through a colleague at Leadership Boise, Malcolm was introduced to Mission43, and completed the Mission43 Entrepreneur Course this fall, in hopes of furthering a business idea to spread kindness and support local small businesses . . . WeLoLo.

In April 2020, Malcolm went for a walk during quarantine and listened to a podcast focused on things that brought joy and positivity to the listeners’ lives; a breath of fresh air during the pandemic, fear, and negativity around the world. This got him thinking about how he could encourage kindness throughout the community, making it easy for people to pay it forward, spread positivity, and treat each other with respect. During this walk, the framework of We Love Local (WeLoLo) was born!

WeLoLo is a “community powered platform that supports local businesses through the simple act of paying it forward.” WeLoLo builds a momentum of kindness throughout the community as individuals and organizations “Pay Forward” dollar amounts, products or services at participating local businesses, such as ā café in downtown Boise. Currently, patrons or community members can simply click a link or scan a QR code to contribute any dollar amount which goes to provide coffee or drink items to healthcare workers, first responders, educators, military members and veterans, and non profit workers; with the hopes of creating a peer to peer feature in the near future. Other participating businesses include: Green Acres Food Truck Park and True Joy Cookies.

Malcolm co-founded WeLoLo with Thamu Dube (Digital Marketer), and together they set out on a mission to increase discovery and patronage at small businesses, plant a seed of kindness while encouraging others to do the same, and ultimately, create a cycle of generosity that will last through the good and the hard times.

WeLoLo believes in collective accountability and creating a footprint that leads by example. Malcolm and Thamu are using the power of WeLoLo and partnering with neckar coffee, Hot Eric Honey, and Interfaith Sanctuary to provide coffee, drinks, and snacks to the homeless population on Saturday, December 11th. If you would like to plant a small seed of generosity click the link below to pay it forward any amount to help make this event possible.
