Employment Training Panel Provides Training Funds to Critical Sectors During
The State of California’s Employment Training Panel announced that it approved 13 contracts worth over $3 million in job training funds for workers. Panel members approved companies contributing to the COVID-19 recovery effort. Together, these businesses will receive contracts to supply their employees with critical job skills.Read more here.
Governor Newsom Takes Action to Strengthen State Unemployment Insurance Delivery System
Governor Gavin Newsom announced a series of actions to better serve workers that have experienced job loss during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the formation of an Employment Development Department (EDD) strike team, and a renewed focus on processing unpaid claims.Read more here.

Unemployment benefits during pandemic top $55 billion in California

California workers out of a job or working reduced hours in this historic pandemic have received a total of $55.1 billion in unemployment benefits since March. The state’s Employment Development Department (EDD) has processed a total of 9.3 million claims during this pandemic, between the regular Unemployment Insurance (UI) program, extensions, and separate Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA) program.
