Patient shuns COVID-19 vaccine, then changes mind after hospitalization

Saul Torres considers himself lucky to be alive after contracting COVID-19 and suffering from a rare neurological condition. From his hospital bed on the 14th floor of UC Davis Medical Center, Torres, a father of two small children, said he lamented not getting the COVID-19 vaccine. His doctors believe it could have prevented Torres’ hospitalization for Guillain-Barré syndrome, an autoimmune disorder triggered by serious viral and bacterial infections.

Sus médicos creen que la vacuna podría haber evitado la hospitalización de Torres por el Síndrome de Guillain-Barré, un trastorno autoinmune provocado por infecciones virales y bacterianas serias.

More options than ever for at-home and community COVID-19 tests

The initial COVID-19 outbreak last year sent labs and health systems across the country rushing to create tests for the novel virus. But which tests should you use and when? And if you are vaccinated, do you need to be testing at all? Two UC Davis Health experts offer some updates and advice.
