We are LIVE at a NEW TIME 6:30 PM

Back in the Greater Plymouth Community Center
COVID has changed our starting time

The time has finally come.  YAAAA!!    At least for now, we are back live at the Greater Plymouth Community Center.  We are all looking forward to seeing old friends, making new ones, and seeing an actual LIVE Speaker.

One More Thing -- At least until the GPCC extends its hours, we must start at 6:30 PM to run our full program.  Please be on time so we can take care of dues collections before the meeting gets rolling.

April's Speaker - Rick Kustich

Hunting Muskie on a fly.

Muskies?   Big, Ugly and mean. Muskies are what is known as an apex predator.  That means that they are on the top of the food chain and fear nothing.   Very exciting to fish for, but are there any around here?  The surprising answer is yes.   The Pa. fish commission has been stocking Pa.  rivers and  lakes with Muskies  for years and it appears they do quite well.  Several lakes in our area have good Muskie populations and I have heard from several sources that there are many good size muskies in the Schuykill River.  Want a break from trout?  Rick Kustich will be here to explain how to catch Muskies.

Rick Kustich is a fly-fishing writer, instructor and guide.  He is author of Hunting Musky with a  Fly and Advanced fly fishing for Great Lakes Steelhead.  Rick's work has appeared in numerous national and regional publications. He has also spent time as a fly shope owner and fly-fishing book publisher

Rick began fly -fishing nearly fifty years ago on the lakes and streams of uptate New York.  He has since traveled extensively to experience the finest fly-fishing throughout North America, but continues to find some of the best fishing often exists in your own backyard.

Zoom Meeting Alternative

Fall meetings will also be available on the Zoom.

Paid members will receive an email invitation several days before the Zoom meeting.  Mike Pellegrino, our Vice President and Zoom Czar, will provide you with the zoom link  and instructions to sign on.   Members who paid dues this year will be sent the link and instructions.  If you have not yet paid your 2021 / 2022 dues be sure to join.  Our monthly meetings are held the third Thursday of the month and are now starting at 6;30 PM Eastern Time from September through June.

Fly Tying Classes and Demonstrations

Beginner to Expert - We have the fly tying class for you!

Fly tying demonstration at Haverford Orvis shop

Club members gave fly tying demonstrations and instruction  at sportsman's shows and fly shops this winter.  This photo captures our tiers doing demonstrations at the Orvis Haverford shop. These demonstrations do a great deal to attract new members to the club and to interest people in fly fishing.  The club owes a  great deal of thanks to the members who volunteered their time and skill to the demonstrations.
LTFFD at Resica Falls

This year's LTFFD was one of the most successful ever!  Thirty-seven beginning fly fisherman came to the class at Resica falls.  In spite of heavy rain in the morning the students were very enthusiastic about learning the basics of fly fishing   Sam and Dave were an excellent team discussing and demonstrating basic fishing,  starting with knots and leaders and going all the  way to tactics for wet, nymph and dry fly fishing.  In the afternoon the club provided lunch for both members and students.  Club members did an outstanding job cooking hamburgers and hot dogs for all.

After lunch  Sam demonstrated correct fly casting technique and  then students were encouraged to bring out their fly rods and receive some individual instruction in casting. Experienced club members gladly helped the new comers with casting.  Casting instruction was one of the most useful activities of the day.  We are able to quickly pick up casting errors and identify problems with tackle.  Many beginners have poorly matched rods and fly lines which inhibited their casting. Problems, such as these, can be very frustrating and turn off beginners.
