Your PTACC Ticker
for the Week of November 14:

1) PTACC National Founding Partner LEAP Presents: Officer Wellness and Resilience Training Webinar on November 16

Chief Tejada of the Emeryville, CA Police Department will discuss how her department uses Mindfulness-Based Resiliency Training (MBRT) to address police mental health, implicit bias, de-escalation, and police-community trust. She will explain how MBRT equips police officers to build individual resilience, navigate occupational stress and trauma, regulate emotions and thoughts, and improve community engagement. Advances in this area offer a fresh approach to police wellness and a new culture of healthy policing.

Research shows that MBRT reduces stress, aggression, and burnout, while increasing sleep and psychological flexibility. It allows officers to grow in the wake of trauma. By enhancing officers’ ability to see the humanity in those they serve, it improves their interactions with everyone from traumatized witnesses and crime survivors to people who have committed crimes.

Please join the November 16 webinar at 2 PM ET/ 1 PM CT

3) The Making of an Opioid Epidemic
Here's a different read than the normal on what communities are facing. it's from across the pond and I think you'll find it worthwhile.  From the Guardian Newspaper:
"Opioids were languishing from the legacy of an earlier epidemic that prompted President Theodore Roosevelt to appoint the US’s first opium commissioner, Dr Hamilton Wright, in 1908. Portenoy wanted to liberate them from this taint. Wright described Americans as “the greatest drug fiends in the world”, and opium and morphine as a “national curse”. After that the medical profession treated opioid pain relief with what Portenoy and his colleagues regarded as unwarranted fear, stigmatising a valuable medicine."
