Resources: NACoA and APF Opioid Prevention Campaign
Resources for parents and educators to prevent youth opioid misuse
PTACC national partner, National Association for Children of Addiction (NACoA), and the Addiction Policy Forum have launched an Opioid Prevention Campaign. The Opioid Prevention Campaign provides evidence-based explainer videos, social media content, workbooks and fact sheets to help prevent substance use disorders among adolescents. The content was developed in collaboration with educators, parents, pastors, coaches, youths, and experts in adolescent medicine and prevention and with funding support from the AmerisourceBergen Foundation. Campaign materials can be accessed here.
“This campaign is especially critical for the highest risk population for addiction – the children of parents with a substance use disorder who already are suffering in silence as a result of parental addiction. They are the first hurt and the last helped and are the most in need of these tools.” - Sis Wenger, NACoA CEO

They are recruiting a Research Director to help establish their research agenda to support: improving police accountability; reimagining the police response; expanding non-custodial alternatives; enabling the monitoring of police responses through robust data collection; and reducing violent crime.

Increasing access to addiction treatment in rural areas
Research shows that nurse practitioners have improved access to care and medication-assisted treatment for those suffering from opioid addiction in rural areas. Rural regions have received better access to care and addiction treatment since early 2017 when nurse practitioners and physician assistants were given the authority to prescribe buprenorphine, according to a new study published in the Journal of Rural Health. They found that nurse practitioners had an almost immediate impact on access to medication-assisted treatment (MAT) in rural Oregon, especially in areas known as frontier regions. Read more.
