1) Take it Today: Chiefs of Police National Pre-Arrest Diversion Survey by George Mason University

Greetings Chiefs!

George Mason University's (GMU) The Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence (ACE!) would like to invite you and your police department to participate in a national online survey that is examining pre-arrest diversion efforts. The Center for Advancing Correctional Excellence (ACE!) designed this online survey to understand better the decision-making process of officers when deciding to either divert individuals to treatment or arrest them.

If you decide to participate, please let me (Daniela) know by sending me an email (dbarberi@gmu.edu) and ACE! will send you the survey link. As a Chief, you will be the one sending the survey link to all the officers in your department. The survey will take approximately 10-20 minutes of your officers’ time. This survey is for research purposes.

For the police department with the highest rate of officer survey responses, ACE! will pay the registration fee for a team of three officers to attend the PTAC Diversion Conference in November 2019.

We thank you in advance for your willingness to participate in this study.

2) Dayton, OH: The City's Overdose Deaths Have Plunged. Can Others Learn From It?

New York Times, November 2018:
"Dayton, Ohio had one of the highest overdose death rates in the nation in 2017. The city made many changes, and fatal overdoses are down more than 50 percent from last year. Dr. Randy Marriott clicked open the daily report he gets on drug overdoses in the county. Only one in the last 24 hours — stunningly low compared to the long lists he used to scroll through last year in a grim morning routine."
