ORDINARY TIME
During Ordinary Time, the Church celebrates the fullness of the mystery of the Lord Jesus.  The people of God offer praise by celebrating the Paschal Mystery of the Death and Resurrection of Jesus.

On the first day of the week, the Lord’s Day, God assembles the beloved people to hear the Word, to reflect upon it, to offer the living sacrifice of praise, and to eat and drink the banquet of the Lord.  Then God sends them forth to proclaim this love by their words and actions.

Sunday is the original Christian Feast Day, following the tradition handed down from Apostolic times, for this was the day of the Lord’s Resurrection.  Today’s Christian communities continue this tradition by celebrating every Sunday as the day of the risen Lord.

WELCOMING A NEW IMMIGRANT
If you have kitchenware that you want to give away i.e. pots, pans, bowls, etc. and you want to give them to a new immigrant family settling in the city, please contact Thea Monica Alba Lopez (778-554-9327).

GRATITUDE
As we conclude the Christmas Season with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord, this Sunday, let me acknowledge those who have assisted us in the preparation and celebration of the Liturgies over Advent and Christmas.  I also include those who have taken down our decorations and have kept them securely for future use:
  • The choirs led by S. Vinda, RVM, Dodie Bond, Una Voce and Couples for Christ.
  • The readers, altar servers, greeters, and security assistants (Knights of Columbus).
  • The assistants in decorating the Church – Dennis Roallos, S. Vinda, RVM, Celia Roallos, Jun Roallos, Bon Lavarias and family, Tony Tabora.
  • Gratitude as well to those who supported our Simbang Gabi 2021.  Special thanks to Jo Ocbena of Filipino Sari-Sari Store for coordinating with the sponsors.
  • Sincere appreciation too to those who welcome me and the carolers to their homes and for supporting this initiative.  The RVM and I are very grateful for your welcome, hospitality and generosity to us and our chosen international outreach.
FUNERAL MASS
On Tuesday, January 11, 7:00 PM, Funeral Mass for Evelyn Agasang will be held at the Cathedral.  Evelyn is a Filipino immigrant and had suffered from cancer. She passed away last week. Her body is being cremated.  After the Funeral Mass, arrangement will be made by her closest friends to bring her ashes to the Philippines.

Eternal rest grant unto, Evelyn, O Lord.
And let perpetual light shine upon her.

May she rest in peace. Amen.

FR. RECTOR IN SELF-ISOLATION
Because I had been experiencing several symptoms of Covid, I had been advised to self-isolate.  I find comfort on the fact that my mom's place has the capacity to allow me to physically distance and self-isolate.  I request for your prayers and continue to encourage everyone to just STAY HOME whenever you feel any symptoms.  It will help prevent the spread of virus whether it is regular flu or Covid.

Sacred Heart School would like to extend a Happy New Year to all parishioners, and we hope that each of you had a Merry Christmas. We wish you all much health and happiness in the year to come!

Sacred Heart School is excited to welcome all our students back to the school on Monday January 10th. We were fortunate to welcome students of Essential Service Workers back to the school on Monday January 4th as per our regular schedule, and it was a blessing to have a small group of students in the building for the duration of the week.

Throughout the first week of January, our staff prepared for a return to school that may be unpredictable given the nature of the pandemic, as well, we worked on implementing enhanced safety protocols that will allow students to come to school in person.

We are looking for people who are interested in working at the school on an on-call basis, both for Teachers Teaching on Call, and for people who are interested in working as an Educational Assistant on Call. If you are interested, please contact Principal Bryan MacLean directly at bmaclean@cispg.ca, thank you for your interest in these positions.
