IN PRAYERFUL SOLIDARITY - NATIONAL DAY FOR TRUTH AND RECONCILIATION
The first annual National Day for Truth and Reconciliation will be observed on Thursday, September 30. Catholics across the diocese are encouraged to make the parish Mass on that day an occasion for reflection and prayer for healing among our indigenous brothers and sisters. Our intercession is a practical expression of our desire to understand our history and promote the well-being of all who share this land as home.

Bishop Stephen Jensen will be the main celebrant for the 12:10 noon Mass at Sacred Heart Cathedral on Thursday.  Please come and join us in prayer.
FROM BISHOP STEPHEN JENSEN
The 2021 plenary meeting of the bishops of Canada just concluded this afternoon. The attached statement is a fruit of that week of consultation. More information will follow early next week about the fundraising mentioned in the letter.

Let us pray that this initiative may contribute to the process of healing and reconciliation that we know is so necessary.

STATEMENT OF APOLOGY BY THE CATHOLIC BISHOPS OF CANADA TO THE INDIGENOUS PEOPLE OF THIS LAND
CALLED TOGETHER: GIVING, SHARING, SERVING, EDUCATIONAL AND PROMOTIONAL WEEKEND
Today is the Educational and Promotional Weekend for Called Together – Giving, Sharing, Serving.

As in the past, your pledge truly benefits the small parishes, missions and ministries throughout our diocese.

A successful Appeal furthers the mission of our local Church and of our parish and helps others in our diocese with the resources they truly need. We hope that every household in our parish actively participates, a goal that can only be reached with your help.

Please consider your support in the coming week. Not everyone can make the same pledge, but if we all offer our sacrifice, we will truly be successful.

Our Parish Goal is: $ 15, 586
In addition to our diocesan appeal, the bishops of B.C. have asked us to help support efforts to promote healing and reconciliation between indigenous and non-indigenous peoples through a separate appeal. This appeal does not have a target, but looks to the generosity of everyone to make a meaningful contribution to promote this important work.

We thank you for your continued generous support.

WORLD DAY OF MIGRANTS AND REFUGEES
(FROM THE ORDO)

A World Day of Migrants and Refugees is observed in many places in solidarity with the World Refugee Day promoted by the United Nations and observed since 2001 on 20 June.  The January observance was instituted by Saint Pius X in 1914.  At the request of several conferences of Bishops, Pope Francis moved the observance to September in 2019.  "The phenomenon of migration today is a providential opportunity for the proclamation of the Gospel in the contemporary world.  Men and women from various regions of the earth who have not yet encountered Jesus Christ or know him only partially, ask to be received in countries with an ancient Christian tradition.  It is necessary to find adequate ways for them to meet and to become acquainted with Jesus Christ and to experience the invaluable gift of salvation." (Pope Benedict XVI, 2012)

FAKE EMAILS
Today I have been informed that there is a fake email purporting to come from me (Rectorino M. Tolentino / pastorparish@email.cz).  The email asked that you help me out with a favour and ask that you reply to me by email.

Later emails ask for the recipient to purchase gift cards for charitable purposes and promise that the amount will be reimbursed by me.

These emails do not come from me and should be immediately deleted. They are a scam intended to trick recipients into supplying the scammers with the hidden code numbers on the back of each gift card. With those code numbers, they are able to claim the funds.

If you have already provided funds in response to an email like this, please contact the police.

Emails that appear to come from someone working for Sacred Heart Cathedral but do not come from a shcpg.ca or a pgdiocese.ca address should be considered fraudulent. You can be assures that I will never ask for assistance in this way.

Should you receive an email from me that you aren’t sure is legitimate, please feel free to call me at 250-564-5225.
VOLUNTEER CHURCH WATCH
We are continuously looking for volunteers who can do patrolling at night or early in the morning around the Church and school.

The basic commitment being asked for a volunteer is your availability to go around the Church and school during the night that you will be assigned.  If there are many volunteers, it would mean you will be assigned only once a week.  For now, the current volunteers are assigned two-three times a week because we do not have enough volunteers.  Please consider volunteering.  You may want to speak with Fr. Rector about it if you want to know more about the Volunteer Church Watch.

NEW WEBSITE LAUNCHED

We have launched our new parish website, it is SACRED HEART CATHEDRAL PRINCE GEORGE, abbreviated:

Fr. Rector invites parishioners to consider this new parish website as the main source of information about our parish and the services it offers.  The newly redesigned cathedral website is more appealing, user friendly, and very informative.

Our gratitude to all who laboured behind the scene in bringing this project to a reality.  Bookmarked our site in your browser and visit it regularly for news and updates.

NEW PARISH BULLETIN COVER
Coinciding with our new parish website is our newly redesigned Sunday bulletin cover.  Please see below:
We thank our advertisers who continuously support us financially.  Overall, through their ad, the parish is able to publish a weekly bulletin.  Their contribution for the ad subsidizes the cost of regular printing of the bulletin.
REQUESTS FROM OTHER CHURCH / COMMUNITY
My name is Judy Calvert and I go to the Pentecostal Church on Fifth Avenue.  The Lord has placed on my heart to protest abortions in front of PG Hospital. I go every Monday (9:30 AM - 11:30 AM).  If anyone wants to join me, you can contact me via email jbcalvert@shaw.ca.
Extracurricular activities started up again at Sacred Heart School this past week, with students from Grade 2 – 7 participating in Cross-Country Running. Our students are training to be able to compete at the meet at Immaculate Conception School coming up in October. We would like to thank our teachers, Ms. Power, Ms. Ruddy, Ms. Stewart, and Mr. Durau for volunteering their time to work with students after school for these training sessions.

On Wednesday September 29th, staff and students at Sacred Heart School will recognize Orange Shirt Day, in support of National Truth and Reconciliation Day that is upcoming on September 30th. Sacred Heart School will join other schools and institutions across the Province and Country in closing on the 30th to the recognize this new National Holiday.

We still have some spaces open in the school. If you have a student or know of a family that may be looking to have students attend our school, please contact the school office for more information at (250) 563-5201.
