From Fr. Rector's Desk | December 2, 2022

DECEMBER 3-4, 2022

9:00 AM

Only the 5:30 PM (Vigil Mass on Saturday) and the 11:00 AM (on Sunday) are LIVESTREAM via our Facebook Page and BROADCAST via FM Radio 102.5

For the FM Radio broadcast, you need to be within 1200 feet radius of the Church to tune-in.

The poster above has the schedule of Christmas Masses. Please share this schedule with your family and friends; and invite them to join us for Mass this Christmas.

As noted above, in Canada there are two holy days of obligations:

1. January 1, Solemnity of Mary, the Holy Mother of God
2. December 25, Solemnity of the Nativity of the Lord (Christmas)

If you are a commissioned reader, please let Fr. Rector knows which Mass you will attend. A separate schedule for liturgical ministers will be published soon.

Also, Fr. Rector is in need of men who would like to volunteer their time providing security for Christmas eve Masses.
If you are church envelope users, new set of envelopes has been prepared for you for the year 2023. It will be available in the church foyer this weekend. Please pick up yours. For some of you, you will notice that your donor number has changed. It is because of the fact that there are now minimal set of envelopes available since many had opted to donate electronically.

If you want to be issued a set of donation envelopes, please let us know thru phone call (250-564-5225) or e-mail (

Those who are giving their donation via PAD, e-transfer, CanadaHelps and credit card will NOT be issued a new set of envelopes. This is part of our cost cutting and stewardship.

INSTEAD, when you come to Mass every Sunday, please pick up a new plastic card for "ONLINE DONORS." You or any family member may drop it off when the collection basket goes around during the offertory. THIS IS SOMETHING NEW that is being introduced so that "ONLINE DONORS" will still have something tangible in their hand to drop into the collection basket.

Copies of new plastic card for "ONLINE DONORS" are located in the church foyer. "ONLINE DONORS" please start using it this weekend when you come to Mass. See the picture of it below:

You are invited to join this year's Simbang Gabi (Filipino night Mass) from December 15-23 at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Mass will be prayed in Filipino language, and it start at 6:30 PM. Refreshments provided after the celebration of each Simbang Gabi.

Simbang Gabi is the nine consecutive evening of Novena Masses leading toward the Solemnity of Christmas. This is both to honor our Blessed Virgin Mary and her Son, our Lord Jesus.

(from the ORDO)

Advent has a twofold nature: It prepares us for Christmas, when we recall Christ's first coming among us, and it is also a time when we look forward to his second coming at the end of the ages. Advent is a season of joyful expectation.

During Advent, each Sunday's Gospel reading has a specific focus. The Old Testament readings, especially those taken from Isaiah, are prophecies about the Messiah and messianic times. The selections from the writings of the Apostles present exhortations and instructions on different themes of this season.

The following activities and/or parish events are scheduled in the parish this Advent:

Second Sunday of Advent
Commissioning of parish leaders and liturgical ministers at all weekend Masses.

This coming weekend, the Second Sunday of Advent,
parish leaders (Parish Pastoral Council, Finance Council, School Council) and those who are involved with the different ministries at Mass (readers, extra-ordinary ministers of communion, greeters, altar servers, choir, collectors) will be commissioned in the celebration of the Mass. It will take place before the final blessing after Prayer after Communion. You will be called forward and there is a brief rite/prayer commissioning you.
This means whatever Mass you attend; you will be commissioned. The word "commission" is use rather than installation as the rite of installation is also use for those who are under seminary formation and for priests being given a new parish assignment.
Third Sunday of Advent
  • Rite of Acceptance (RCIA) at the 9:00 AM Mass
  • Pancake breakfast hosted by the Knights of Columbus and Bake sale c/o CWL
  • Traditional Latin Mass at 1:30 PM.

Third Week and Fourth Week of Advent
Simbang Gabi (nine evenings of Masses before Christmas said in Filipino) beginning on December 15, 6:30 PM.

1.  NATIVITY SCENE DISPLAY AT YOUR FRONT YARD. The Knights of Columbus will erect the nativity scene (picture above) in your front yard for a donation of minimum $100 to the Knights for their charitable works. They will take it down in January too. If you would like the Knights to do it, please contact the Grand Knight, Pat Egan.
2.  RECRUITMENT DRIVE. The Knights of Columbus are doing a recruitment drive after the three masses this weekend. Please consider joining this Catholic men's service group.
3. PANCAKE BREAKFAST. The Knights of Columbus are hosting a complimentary Christmas pancake and sausage breakfast after the two Sunday masses on December 11. Donations towards Cathedral Youth Ministry (our new youth group) will be gladly accepted. As well, there is to be a CWL bake sale and the Parent Support Group will be selling the school's fundraising 50-50 raffle tickets.  Rumor is that Santa will drop by and give out sweets, and there should be some musicians trying out some Christmas carols. This will all take place in the school gym.
