Greetings RVV members,

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission (OLCC) is seeking nominations for individuals to serve on a Rules Advisory Committee (RAC) and make recommendations regarding the labeling of Oregon wines.   The members of the RAC should be members of the Oregon wine industry and be able to help the OLCC develop rules to implement the provisions of Senate Bill 829 (SB 829).

On June 17, 2019, SB 829 was signed into law by Governor Brown. SB 829 requires the OLCC to develop and adopt rules regarding the labeling of American Viticultural Areas (AVAs) located within larger AVAs. As part of the rulemaking process, the OLCC must appoint a RAC to aid in the development of the rules. As a part of SB 829, the OLCC must take the following items into consideration when appointing members to the RAC:
  • RAC members must have expertise in the production and labeling of Oregon wines
  • To the extent  possible, RAC members  must be appointed from the various grape growing  areas in proportion to the relative acreage used for wine grape production
  • At least one RAC member shall be appointed from within the Willamette Valley AVA
  • At least one RAC member shall be appointed from outside of the Willamette Valley AVA
  • Nominees from winemaking industry associations or other related organizations must be considered
The OLCC is seeking individuals who will represent both the geographic area where they reside as well as the interests of the Oregon wine industry as a whole.  In appointing members to the RAC, the OLCC will attempt to attain balance in both the representation of both large and small operators as well as the representation of the various AVAs throughout the state.  From the nominations received, the OLCC will appoint 11 individuals to serve on the RAC.

If you are interested in serving on the committee, please send your name and contact information to OLCC.Wine@oregon.gov by January 24, 2020. The OLCC will select up to three individuals that will represent the Rogue Valley AVA.
