August 2019 Community Newsletter

Updates from the RVV Board

The month of August has been glorious, with blue-sky days and welcome cooler temperatures around our valley. With such a beautiful summer on record, the sky's the limit for what we can expect for the 2020 tourism season.

As we all begin preparations for another harvest season, we have a few small announcements before it's time to focus on welcoming the 2019 vintage through our doors. As such, it may be a few months before another newsletter comes out. In the meantime, however, we are happy to share a few exciting updates.

The Rogue Valley has received some wonderful press recently. First, on July 11, Joseph Micaleff of Forbes Magazine published a series of articles on the Southern Oregon wine region, including "Exploring The Wines of Southern Oregon" and "Exploring the Wines of the Rogue Valley." Additionally, Foodista Blog wrote a series on eating and drinking through Southern Oregon, featuring the towns of Elkton, Roseburg, and Ashland

Finally, we are pleased to share that, thanks to the tireless perseverance of treasurer Chad Day, Rogue Valley Vintners has officially been granted tax-exempt status. We'll raise a glass to that!

RVV Member Marketing Opportunity at Cellar 503 in Portland

A new marketing opportunity for Rogue Valley Vintners member wineries is open for participation. Carrie Wynkoop at Cellar 503 is seeking 6-8 wines to be poured alongside the Oregon Solidarity Wines with Christine Clair from Willamette Valley Vintners. The tasting will take place at Cellar 503's location in downtown Portland on August 30th from 5 - 7 PM, and September 7th from 2 - 5 PM. Additionally, RVV and Cellar 503 will need 1 - 2 volunteers to represent all the wines being poured. If you would like to submit your wines and brand for consideration, please reach out to Ashley Cates no later than Monday, August 19. In the interests of fairness, we will pull names from a hat to determine participation.

Oregon Mayor's Association Conference in Medford, Oregon

The Oregon Mayor's Association Conference was hosted by Travel Medford in Medford between August 1-3 of this year, and included a dinner event during which Rogue Valley Vintners member wines were poured for the mayors. We also had an opportunity to brief the mayors on our growth and support as an organization. This was a wonderful opportunity for RVV member wineries to share their wines with leaders from outside our area. It was fulfilling to share the progress our wines and region have made with mayors from around our state, and we are excited to continue carrying the RVV message to neighboring regions.
