Fall Into Something New at Leap of Joy!

We hope everyone had a nice summer in quarantine! We've been a little quiet on our end, but there's been a good reason: we've been making plans!

Our virtual Summer Camp was a blast and a huge success. While we weren't able to spend the time with our students in person, we still had a ton of attendees participating in our Zoom camp with us in July! It was a little chaotic and a LOT of fun!

With the start of the school year, Leap of Joy has some great events coming up. Scroll down to see what we've got coming up!

Back to School Time!

It's September--a time usually reserved for buying school supplies and new outfits, for packing sack lunches and meeting new friends and teachers. With the pandemic still raging through the state, things aren't quite the same this year.

Sadly, this means that we aren't able to visit schools in person this year. At Leap of Joy, our main activity has always been going to schools and bringing both dance and the arts to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to participate in such activities.

But we are pleased to announce that, though we can't be there in person, we have teamed up with Austin ISD to create an online dance program! These after-school enrichment classes are the very core of our mission and we are so very excited to get back into the classroom--virtual or not!

S-S-S-Saturday! Saturday! Saturday Classes!

Our Saturday classes are still happening--and they are a blast! Open to children of all ages (and parents, if they want to dance along!), these virtual dance hours take place on Zoom. They are completely free and--did we mention?--open to everyone!

We'd love to see you join us! We have new classes starting this month, and it's a great way to move and groove in the comfort and safety of your own home!

Classes are at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday mornings.

Click Here to register for the class and receive the Zoom link.

The classes are totally free of charge! However, if you enjoy the class and are able to contribute, we would love if you'd consider making a donation. Click below if you'd like to help us out!

Save the date! On Sunday, November 8th, 2020, we will be hosting our 10th Anniversary Gala: a virtual event, featuring talented musicians, dance performances, and more! It is our tenth year as a registered non-profit and we're ready to celebrate!

More details to come, but save the date--it promises to be a night we'll never forget!
We've got some new episodes of our YouTube variety show coming up soon! Full of fun, educational entertainment, we've been compiling these shows while stuck in quarantine. If you like our content, please remember to subscribe to our channel and tell your friends!

Director's Note

First off, I want to thank the generous contributors who gave to my birthday fund.  We raised almost $1500:

Mike Martin,  Allan Thornton, Yvonne Pousson, Barbara Brown, Scott Brown, Christina Rosendaul, Nancy Coplin, Marguarette Pousson, Beth McElhaney, Steve Richardson, Pete Moulos, Cheryl Denny, Jim Witcher, Annie Harding, Carey Colley, Denise Boudreaux, Jaye Pousson Stepp.

The Covid has made life harder for everyone. No doubt you have had to make so many changes in the last almost six months and the only solace is that we are all in this together. School starts this week and it will be like no other we’ve experienced in more than ten years. We will be teaching all of our classes through Zoom and instead of showing up to our schools, the students will be coming to us from all of our schools at the same time. We’ve had some success with this since we have been Zooming our Saturday morning classes for the last several weeks and completed our week long summer camp in late July.

There’s no doubt, this is a big change for you, for us and for our students but we have high hopes and will be doing our best.  We have great teachers and if anyone can do it, they can.

Speaking of living in a virtual universe and since all our spring activities were cancelled, we will be hosting our Leap of Joy 10th Anniversary Celebration on Sunday, November 8. We have already signed up some great entertainment with more to come.  We’ll let you know the lineup and details in our next letter but it’s going to be a really great show. Stay tuned.

And if you haven’t done so yet, check out our “Let’s Put on a Show” on our Youtube channel for the younger kids.

Wishing you all to be well and safe.  Hang in there as we all work together to make this a better world.
