WE ARE FUNDRAISING
for our gun-related Violence prevention mural! The owners of Windsor Plaza have graciously (and finally!) agreed to allow us to RECLAIM this space!

This is SO important because this wall faces the entryway to Dunbar Recreation Complex - a 1) a center point of Mechanicsville, 2) a space with various youth and community serving components (a Sheltering Arms, Elementary School, Parks, Little league teams, the Center for Black Women's Wellness, and MORE), 3)  a HOT SPOT FOR GUN RELATED VIOLENCE.

We are building a safe zone. And we need your help.

Our GOAL is $35,000.00 to reimagine this 1,300+ sq ft wall based on the data we've collected from residents during our Guns Down Mechanicsville project.

If you or anyone/ organization/ business you know can donate funding and/or materials, LET US KNOW! If you l know of funding and think we would be a great fit, send it our way!
We are featured in the Annie E. Casey Foundation's latest report on community safety. Read it HERE
We recently presented *preliminary* data on Guns Down Mechanicsville at Safe States Alliance's Annual Conference
We're presenting at SOPHE next week!

Learn approaches to address social determinants of health. This presentation will focus on the community-driven work by The Urban Advocate in Atlanta’s Neighborhood Planning Unit V, including the neighborhoods, Mechanicsville, etc. As The Urban Advocate’s work in the community grew, so did the goal of each project, which evolved into re-envisioning community norms to create attitudes and behaviors that revitalize Mechanicsville into a healthier community.
That's all for now! Enjoy some photos from Mechanicsville Family Fun Day and if you enjoyed this newsletter forward it to a friend/business or drop us a line!
