Here's the latest news about the local effort for the ILC in Tohoku (northeastern Japan)
Sendai Statement adopted at the close of LCWS 2019

The Linear Collider Workshop 2019 held its closing ceremony at the Sendai International Center on November 1st, marking the end of its 5 day span. There, they put together the discussions that were had on technological improvement for the ILC, hoped to be built in the Kitakami mountains of Iwate Prefecture. As a consensus among scientists across the world, they released the Sendai Statement, which called for the ILC to be constructed as an global project in Japan.

An interview with ICFA Chief Geoffrey Taylor – reaffirming the necessity of the ILC

Professor Geoffrey Taylor, chief of the International Committee for Future Accelerators (Director of Center of Excellence for Particle Physics, Australia), sat down with Iwate Nippo in Sendai City for an interview. Regarding the Linear Collider Workshop, held in Tohoku (candidate site for the ILC) for the first time in three years, he said, “Scientists from around the world came together to reaffirm the importance of building the ILC, and we have had technological progress as well.” He asked for the Japanese national government to make clear to the world its deliberation process, or otherwise show some sort of positive sign for the ILC.

ICFA Chair visits the ILC candidate site in Ichinoseki

Geoffrey Taylor, chair of the International Committee for Future Accelerators (ICFA), visited Ohara, Ichinoseki City on November 3rd to see the candidate site for the ILC. It was Taylor’s first time in Japan. “There’s a lot local interest in the ILC. I think Japan will move towards the realization of the ILC.”

Come one, come all – Future Researchers and Engineers of the ILC!

On October 26th, 2019, the “Science and Engineering Challenge for High School Students in Iwate for the ILC” was held in Iwate Prefecture.

I was actually the main planner and operator of the contest (I’m with the Bureau of ILC Promotion at the Iwate government), so I’d like to report on not just the contest results, but also some behind-the-scenes as well as my own personal thoughts about the event.
