At their annual meeting, the Tohoku ILC Promotion Council adopts a resolution calling for the national government to make a decision on the ILC
The Tohoku ILC Promotion Council held its 2019 annual meeting at a hotel in Sendai City on July 1st. There, they adopted a resolution to call on the Japanese national government to make a speedy decision on the ILC. They also affirmed that they would work to convey how enthusiastic the area is for the ILC at the Linear Collider Workshop to be held in Sendai City in October.

Eight organizations from southern Iwate and northern Miyagi cross prefectural borders to form a liaison council for the ILC
On July 17th, eight organizations from southern Iwate and northern Miyagi held the first meeting of their liaison council for the ILC in a hotel in Ichinoseki City. Currently, the national government is considering whether or not to host the ILC, so these organizations crossed prefectural borders to become a unified front that will carry out efforts to increase enthusiasm for the project.

Students at Ichinoseki Higashi Middle School gain a deeper interest in particle physics – A physicist from KEK comes for a talk
Ichinoseki Higashi Middle School in Takizawa, Ichinoseki City, held a special class on the International Linear Collider (ILC) on July 4th.
The city government holds these classes for middle school students in order to deepen their understanding of the ILC project. A researcher from Japan’s High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK, in Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture) came to teach the students about the basics of particle physics and what sort of research will be done at the ILC.

The Sansa Odori Drum Festival
Every year on August 1-4 you will hear the constant pounding of drums throughout the city of Morioka in Iwate Prefecture. That’s because the city is hosting its annual Sansa Odori Drum Festival, recognized by the Guinness World Records as the largest drum parade in the world!
